    Lightbulb My Own Starship Combat Rules!

    Hey Everyone,

    Well, i figure since i'm trying to get more exposure:

    I've written a simple starship combat game that trys to capture the TV startrek (movies too) Nothing too complicated but i think its fun, and it uses 1/1400 scale models (although could be adapted to anything)

    Please look it over and give me any suggestions!! Thanks!

    I had a quick glance at the rules and overall you came up with a simple and workable system. I especially like the rules about the captains' abilities, which is I think what differentiates Trek from a lot of other games. I also like the way the ships move; it is very simple yet I think it accurately depicts how starships move on the show. The only thing I've noticed was that you didn't use the canon figures but that's ok if you wanted to depict an abstract system, like the CODA RPG. Also, I don't see much difference between photon and quantum torpedoes, as I'd expect the latter to cause more damage. But overall nicely done.

    Hello,

    thanks for the comments. Yes, Quantum torpedos should have a higher damage potential. I think that was just an oversite on my part. Mos tlikley it will be 1.5 times stronger than regular torpedoes.

    The stats are my interpretation of canon ships, but they also are a wip.

    What is missing

    Overall, I like the simplicity of this game. I think it is simple enough to add to a role playing game. I like it.

    I have given the rules a quick read, and I came away from them not really knowing how to play the game.

    Ok, I think I understand initiative and movement, but I'm not sure how to figure out what I need to roll to hit with a wepon and how much damage they do. Page 4 tells me what I need to roll to hit with a phaser, but what about other weapons? Do phasers do 1 point of damage per hit?

    What do the weapon ratings mean. Is it the number of weapons on that facing?

    How is the total point cost calculated? I want to add my own ships...
