    First New Character Post

Time to meet the first new character made using the new Coda system to be posted here, mostly as an example. With your permission, I would like to introduce:

    Captain Joseph James (J.J.) Powers
    Human Starship Command Officer
    TOS Movie Era
    Captain, U.S.S. Endeavor

    ATTRIBUTES
    Strength: 6 (0)
    Agility: 9 (+1)
    *Intellect: 8 (+1)
    Vitality: 8 (+1)
    *Presence: 11 (+2)
    Perception: 8 (+1)

    REACTIONS:
    Quickness: +1
    Savvy: +2
    Stamina: +3
    *Willpower: +2

    *favored

    OTHER STATS:
    Defense: 8
    Health: 8
    Courage: 4
    Renown: 4
    Advancements: 6

    Personal Development: Academic
    Professional Development: Basic Commander

    SKILLS (includes attribute modifiers):
    Computer Use (Retrieve) +5
    Knowledge: Trivia +3
    Science: Space +2
    Craft: Cooking +2
    Entertain: Play Guitar +5
    Language: Vulcan +3
    Enterprise: Administration +4
Ranged Combat: Energy Weapons (Phaser) +5
    Negotiate +4
    Repair +2
    System Operation (Command) +5
    Tactics (Space) +4
Unarmed Combat: Starfleet Martial Arts +4

Species Abilities: Adaptable, Human Spirit, Skilled
Professional Abilities: Starship Duty, Commanding Presence, Intrepid
Edges: Curious, Command 2, Courageous, Promotion 5 (Captain), Shrewd

The new character creation system is pure joy. It is much much easier to make nifty (and somewhat detailed) characters with it. Bring on the Narrator's Guide!
Can I have some Amy Jo Johnson, mama?

Looks good! Glad you enjoyed making your first character!

Two things I noticed after a casual glance:
    1. Your Entertain should be Entertain: Play Musical Instrument +5. If you have the guitar specialty then you'd add that on.
    2. Judging by the number of skills and lack of any Culture or History, I'm guessing you forgot your discretionary species skill points (page 85). Assuming you didn't raise your Intellect with your advancements, you've got 16 picks to spend on species Knowledge skills or Languages.

    Good job, Captain!

Okay, he's fixed. Now, I've got to come up with a good back story for him. Any suggestions?

Just a question... how did you end up with all those edges?
    And a third Pro-Ability?

    Red face

    6 Advancements, right.

That's what you miss when scrolling down too fast.

Looks good to me (insofar as I can't detect any mistakes). However, I would recommend separating out your skill mods from your attribute mods to prevent any confusion.

I can't see any reason he would have Intellect as a secondary favored attribute, but the rest looks good. Great job.

When it comes to languages...is it really worth raising your "native" tounge past +1...or at all. After all the book says that you dont have to roll for your own language, even if they speak gibberish.

This was one of the few complaints I had with ICON, the system never really said what level gave complete fluency in a language. I hope this is resolved in the new system.

Unfortunately, I can't see any such rules in the new book. I'm still very excited to hear all the positive reaction to Captain Powers' introduction. Perhaps, someone will create an XO (executive officer) for him?

Not knowing the system it is hard for me to say more then interesting. Perhaps if you posted a little of J.J's background, it's is hard to get the jist of a character from just the stats. From what I have seen it looks like he's had and exciting past.
