Talking Way of D'era Boxed Set?

When I asked for opinions on a solo campaign, someone suggested I use the Way of D'era boxed set. I would appreciate any opinions anyone might have on that particular product.

I am looking for opinions specifically on the information content of the book- how practical and useful it is.

There is a more detailed system for generating Romulan characters whether they are PCs or NPCs. This system is not limited to Naval personnel alone but Tal Shiar, civilian and political pursuits as well.

It includes a map of the Star Empire and gives some detail on about a half dozen sectors, several of the worlds and some of the species therein.

It includes basic stats for several more Romulan vessels and some information on the set up of the Romulan Star Navy.

It has GMing tips and there are several hooks throughout the set that can be expanded into scenarios for almost any type of campaign whether playing Romulans or if they are the PCs' opponents.

Two adventures are provided as is information on how the RSN is different from Starfleet in approaching missions.

Overall, I found it extremely useful. Besides the Core Books and the Players Guide probably my most used supplement to date for my own Starfleet campaigns. Though the Clans and RRR are coming in pretty close as well.

    Regards,
    CKV.

    Speaking of the Romulans,
I'm curious how the Icon rules writers dealt with the so-called "Triangle" area that separates the Federation, the Romulans, and the Klingons empires. when I start my game it largely take place in and around that area. I have some ideas simalar to the TNG episode "The Defector" and ideas for the Tal Shiar/Section 31 groups and maybe create a simalar "Klingon espionge group" (almost a contradiction in terms ) Any Ideas??

it's pretty obvious that the Borg never played "Risk" as a little collective.

After reading The Way of D'era 2 things happened:

    1) my interest for the romulans rised
    2) I was dying to see the cardassians and Klingons done as well as quickly as possible

I concur; excellent background info and many ships. Sample characters etc.

    Well worth it!

Well I think this set belongs to the best of LUG-Trek. It is very detailed describes Romulan society and behaviour in great details. the best thing are the new ships and as a consequence I looked forward the other sets - which never came

    Thumbs up

The Romulan Box is a nearly complete encyclopedia about the Romulans. It was and is very useful in my campaign because of the detailed informations about the Roumulans, their way of living, thinking and fighting. From my point of view it is one of the best books/boxes published for the game.
