While it wasn't stated explicitly that the Iconian gates are time-capable, it was implied that each image shown was a destination.
One of the images shown was Toronto's "new" City Hall, built in the 1960's. The image shown was a very famous picture taken circa 1970 of Nathan Philips Square, with theCity Hall in the background. It was probably taken from a generic file of "fututistic" buildings by someone who had no clue what it was, but I'm going to take it literally.
This could be VERY interesting . . . oh . . . and make them run into an EARLY Star Trek covention while looking to get back to their own time. But always remember the temporal directive. . .

Well, if they run into a Star Trek convention, they won't be in their own past - in my campaign, Star Trek's place in history is taken up by the show GalaxyQuest, which ran from 1978-1981 ad 1999-2006. (That said, I ran a sequel adventure to the fanfic Visit To A Weird Planet 10 years ago...)
Anyway, since space and time are a continuum, I see no reason why an Iconian gate couldn't be used for time travel. It may not have been part of its normal function, for various reasons, but these things are old and haven't been maintained in a looooong time.
You know, after reading "Visit To a Wierd Planet Revisted" in "New Voyages", I have always wanted to get my hands on a copy of "Visit To a Wierd Planet".
Any suggestions (privately emailed) would be greatly appreciated...
