    Thumbs up Anomaly TrekMUX

Perched in the silent void of the Dulcais sector sits one of the Federation's most strategic outposts; Station 419. At the edge of the Klingon and Romulan borders, 419 keeps a watchful eye on the new Romulan/Federation alliance against the Dominion aggressors and their Cardassian lapdogs.

It is here that the Federation is attempting a grand experiment of peace in this difficult time of war. With a crew made up of both Starfleet and Romulan officers, Station 419 is poised to usher in a new era of peace with the Romulan people, or destroy the notion once and for all.

But with the fall of Betazed just months behind them, everyone is sure of one thing: Peace with the Romulans now brings strength to all who oppose the Dominion. But the peace is fragile at best.

Protecting the station is the USS Aegis, an experimental heavy cruiser of the Akira class. It is rumored to be outfitted with the most cutting edge technology that Starfleet can provide.

This is the setting of Anomaly TrekMUX - a text-based virtual-coffee table for playing Star Trek by Last Unicorn Games. The players of the game liken the experience to 'being on one of the TV shows', so come by and join us for the fun. We are interested in story, theme and character development and not interstellar simulations. All applications are thoroughly reviewed and only the highest quality will make it under the rope.

A client is recommended - you can find one here, called SimpleMU*. Or you can use raw telnet (which will be ugly - but it works).

Telnet to anomaly.mybis.com port 2120, or check out our web page.

Leave me a message here or email me if you need more information.

    Question

    Free bump.

You going to convert to Coda, out of curiosity on the MUX?

I really want to, frankly, but I'm not sure how my players would react to it. A lot of them have actually gone out and bought LUG supplements (especially the other staff there). Though my players who have bought the new RPG, like me, think it's the best thing since sliced bread. It is certainly the most top-notch Trek gaming product to date.

The LUG character generation code took me three months to code up, and so much is tied into it that it'd be a big mess for a long time. So much more would need to be written than just chargen. Contest system, XP system, etc.

Believe me, I've given it serious thought.

I think I'm going to wait a couple of months until more of my players get their hands on the books, then I'll put it to them to see if they want to make the switch. It'd probably be an easy task to convert their sheets since we don't use values for specialties (specialties count as Skill level + 1 for the purpose of contests).

As one of the players on AnomalyMUX who would be most affected by this, I'm of a mixed mind. I know that A. simply doesn't have enough time in his day to work both on conversion and on keeping quality and morale high on the current iteration of the game. Also, I must confess selfishly that my personal PC, the station's Andorian chief engineer, a senior officer tied into a great deal of plot foo, doesn't convert 'cleanly'. So that's a huge bias on my part which I disclose.

But A. and I have been discussing this since he posted yesterday, and we're tossing ideas back and forth. I promise.
