Question Starship Officer EPs and Favored Attribs/Reactions

Okay, we've answered my questions about how Starship Duty and SOEPs work. I've gotten my question about SOEP professional abilities answered to my satisfaction. Now comes the next question as I sit here and try to make my department-skipping character within the rules.

All the different SOEPs have different Favored Attributes and Reactions. When I go from, say, Security to Helm, do my character's Favored Attributes and Reactions change for purposes of later advancement?

It appears that once you have your two favored attributes (you get to pick one) they remain unchanged for the character regardless of changes in profession.

No advanced profession has favored attributes.

Except for the Starship Officer "elite" professions, which allegedly follow all the other rules for elite professions. *le sigh*

Anyway, I tend to agree with you: Once you choose them, you're stuck with the favored attributes for the rest of the character's career. What I'm curious about is, if you know there's going to be some pre-game advancements, which set of favored attributes do you choose? The ones where the character starts out, or the ones where he ends up? It's little things like this that occur to me when I don't have my book handy, and it's starting to really vex me....
