This is a write-up for the Edoan species I cobbled together from various sources. It includes a few bits of unestablished background information in order to round out their description, but nothing that contradicts the semi-canonical sources.
Edoans
Personality: The thing that most defines the Edoan character is modesty. One of the axioms of their society is that one's actions should speak for themselves and that calling attention to one's self is not only crass, but is borderline immoral. An ancient Edoan proverb states, "Although the righteous person remains silent, an entire chorus sings on his behalf. The song of the wicked has but one voice, his own." This ethic has lead to the natives of Edos having a general reputation for reclusiveness and, among the more suspicious minded, secrecy.
Physical Description: The Edoans are tripodal, with three legs, three arms, and three fingers on each hand. Swan-like necks support their large angular heads. Edoans are completely hairless. They have large yellow tinted eyes and skin tones ranging from beet red to a rusty orange. Edoan height falls within the normal humanoid range. Although they possess a lighter build than the average human, their extra limbs provide for body weights comparable to a human of the same height. Males and females of the species are nearly indistinguishable from each other, save for the male Edoan's more prominent neck waddle.
Homeword: Edos, a planet in the Epsilon Minora system. Edos is not a member of the Federation. Rather, it remains in loose alliance with the Federation, coming under its agreements for trade, science, and aid in an emergency. Edos lies in the Triangulum constellation, on the rim of the galaxy. It is a jumping off point for science teams studying the great energy barrier beyond the rim. It is also a peaceful planet that has never been involved in a war.
Culture: Edoans are quite long-lived, and it is highly unusual for there to be more than one child per family. The population must be kept in check due to the longer life expectancy. As a result, all children are precious, and families are close. Ancestral records are kept in great detail, dating back for centuries. Edoans play a flute-like instrument called a sessica, its harmonies may be lively or romantic or plaintive, but all relate to story-songs that tell the history of the race or families. Edoan technology is as advanced as Earth's. The architectural style of Edoan cities is strictly functional rather than esthetically pleasing. The society has no class levels; all beings on Edos are equal. In matters of faith they are pantheonistic and ecumenical. In an Edoan temple it is not at all surprising to find ,amongst the many native deities, shrines to such luminaries as Christ, Buddha, Surak, and Kahles.
Languages: Edoan, Federation Standard
Common Names: Edoans place the surname before the given name. For example, Arex Na Eth's given name is Na Eth; Arex is his family name (and the one he uses in conjunction with his Star Fleet rank).
Favored Profession: Flight Control Officer. With the ease at which they can simultaneously handle the tasks of both piloting and navigating, Edoans of this profession are highly coveted. Other Edoans put their unique talents to use aboard merchant ships or private science research vessels.
Species Adjustments: +2 Agility, +2 Perception, -1 Presence, -1 Strength
Species Abilities:
o Bonus Edge: Ambidextrous: Edoans may use each of their three arms with equal proficiency.
o Bonus Edge: Multitasking: Edoans have a knack for getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.
Notable Edoans
Lieutenant Arex Na Eth has been in Starfleet for many years. He is known as the best navigator in the Fleet. Before he entered the service as a technician, he spent ten years in the merchant space fleet. Arex's people are long lived, and Arex knew from the very beginning that he wished to spend his long life in space. While Arex is an officer, and a good one, he is not a product of the Starfleet Academy. He worked his way up through the ranks, becoming an officer via a "field commission" during a battle involving the Klingons and the small cruiser aboard which he was then serving. All the officers were killed in the fray, and Arex took command to affect a temporary retreat and then a return action that took the Klingon ship by surprise and allowed Arex to disable her and bring her in to face Federation charges. It is not fair to say Arex has never been to Starfleet Academy. He spent two years there some time ago... as a space navigation instructor. One of his high scoring students was a young Russian named Pavel Chekov.
