    Question XP awards/Narrator's Guide

I've started getting my group to create/recreate their Trek characters and usually I do a thing where I give them XP for writing a good background for their characters.
As the NG isn't out yet do any playtesters know what kind of xp award could be used for this.
On this note I'm not sure about other people playing the game at the moment but any kind of basic xp guidelines would be great.
Is there anything else I should know before starting a game ?(taking in mind I've done LUG Trek for a few years now)

Instead of experience points, I've been giving the players 'picks' from the advancement table. Anywhere from 1-3 picks, depending on the difficulty of the adventure. Usually 1

This could work, but I am eagerly awaiting their development of the whole XP issue.
