Another switching professions question

OK, so the rules say you can only advance in two professions at a time, and per Don's response in another thread, you can have only one base profession.

Does this mean you are limited to advancing in only one elite profession at a time? If you can advance in two elite professions at one time, how do you 'reacquire' your base profession for further advancement? Would you just pay the same cost as acquiring an elite profession? I'm not looking to get a different base profession, just get my original one back.

You never have to “reacquire” your prior professions—you simply dictate a maximum of two professions that you can advance at any one time. During later advancements you can change that to any of your previous/current professions, even ones that you’ve no longer used.

You never “lose” professions—you simply can only advance in two of your choice, at any time.

I saw that as a possibility and was hoping that was the answer. Thanks for the clarification Don.

If I might add a bit of confusion here:
Players Guide p155
Sechok chooses to become an envoy ... he decides to forego advancement as an explorer ... next time Sechok advances, he could chose to re-enter the explorer elite profession by spending another 5 picks. After returning to the profession, he could resume development of explorer skills and abilities ...
So changing back to a former profession is still not free ... does this mean that when you chose in which professions you want to advance, you have to keep your base profession? This doesn't seem right, as in the above example, Sechok has chosen Envoy and Science Officer. Obviously he had already given up the Starship Officer base profession.
So ... how much would the switching back to the base profession cost?

Good catch, Calcoran, and I'll check with Ross. Perhaps I simply misunderstood his earlier statement when he and I spoke on this topic.

I have a similar question. Say my character, starts off as a BSO(Basic System Operator) in star fleet, can I take another profession at my next level up if I meet the prerequisites for the profession or do I need to take a special advantage. Like My personal development was a psionic one, then I went to starfleet and learned to be a BSO. Now, I have requested and been released from Starfleet, can I start taking skills, since I am no longer a starfleet BSO.
May your worlds be at peace. Never assume, that the pointy eared first officer is Vulcan.
