    What does it mean!?

I've seen references here and there to "upper decks" and "lower decks" campaigns. Being somewhat new to Trek RPG'ing, I'm trying to figure out exactly what that is referring to?

    Anyone care to enlighten me?

"Upper decks" generally refers to games or stories centered around the command staff -- the captain, XO, and department heads. So-called because they typically are quartered in the upper decks of the ship (which was a big deal in the days of the ocean-bound navy, since it put them above the surface of the water and increased their survivability), and also because they're at the top of the ship's command food chain.

"Lower decks" typically refers to games or stories centered on the enlisted staff or very junior officers, the ones who draw the midnight shift in environmental systems control. So-called because they're typically quartered in the lower decks of the ship (which would put them under water in a wet navy vessel), and because they're at the bottom of the command chain.

    Hmm. That makes sense. Thanks!
