No sign here yet.

How'd the other Aussie's go with the gap between US and Aus release dates for the PG?

Aaaaargh! I just got an answer from my not-so-local game store, and it appears I won't be able to pick up my copy of the NG ... because of two stupid national holidays that the UK had this week! .
What did you need those national holidays for!?! Why did that jubileum (or whatever it's spelled) have to take place in june ?!? Aaaargh!

razzum-frazzum Westfield...

The company with which I ordered my game ships monthly everything that came out the previous month. Shipping takes about a week.

Therefore, I will not get my NG until some time in July.

I hate you all.

From now on, I will be ordering directly from Decipher. Hopefully, that will speed things up.

P.S. I notice that the upcoming TrekRPG books are STILL not being listed in Previews, although Decipher has listed its other game stuff there.

Odd, that.

NG in France

For all French gamers here, I found the Narrator Guide in the Jeux Descartes shop rue des Ecoles, Paris (5) today. They had a whole stack of the thing

Perhaps this is a stupid question (I'll take that chance), are they (Decipher) printing thier stuff in other languages, or are they strictly printing in English? I've always been curious about that. Perhaps some of you who aren't in/from the US could enlighten me.

So far the PG and NG were available in France in English (and so were all LUG books BTW). I'm not aware of any translation so far, in French at least.
We just have to speak english if we want to play Star Trek...

Wow c5, I cannot begin o tell you how refreshing it is to here you say that. Over here in Quebec, that kind of statement would result in someone getting hung... okay maybe not hung, but you get the idea.

That said even with the limited numbers of English gamers in Montreal/Quebec, the d20 Star Wars re-release and the Star Trek NG have flown out of the distributors warehouses and they are doing more orders

I have to ask, why do our national holidays affect distribution of games in France?

And don't knock national holidays. We got four days off work. FOUR DAYS!! It's a shame the Queen only has a Jubilee every 25 years.

Actually, AslanC, the ST community in France is a very small one by itself (only one cable channel airs Star Trek - with a loooong delay - and almost everyone knows Star Trek as "that funny american series with the pointy eared guy"), and French translations are usually ridiculous (my favourite example being warp speed translated either as Mach, orbital speed, hyperatomic speed, distorsion speed, hyperexponential speed.... ).
So we usually have not much of a choice...

WOW!! That's what they called the show over here when it first aired "...that funny show with the pointy eared guy..."

Don't knock "hyperatomic speed"...that actually has a cool ring to it. I think Captain Pike refered to it originally as "...TIME WARP FACTOR..." and its better than "LUDICRIS SPEED"...yes, I know my spelling is terrible...

I've been going since I-CON 5. Karg and I attended many of the earlier conventions together before I relocated to CA.

As for the Narrator's Guide, I got mine Wednesday and have scanned the chapters, reading specific things in detail, and have a few comments:

1. Lots of good summaries and samples. For example, the chapters that discuss creating a series and the series/episode elements are well-written with good examples and quick references. I haven't gotten to the Rubicon adventure yet, but intend to use it in the adventures I run.

2. The profile sheets at the back of the book are an excellent way of organizing series/episode information for your adventures. However, again, that black background has GOT to go!

3. The CODA Rules chapter will prove very useful for someone like myself who is unfamiliar with the system.

4. One thing I don't like: The Starship Combat section is, IMHO, woefully lacking in detail. I'm not looking for number-crunching like Starfleet Battles, more like something along the FASA line. I was expecting to see sample grid sheets, sample combat scenarios, references to miniatures (which to use, where to get them, what scale, etc.). Also, what kind of combat grid do we use for starships? Hex, Square, Octagon? Maybe I need to re-read this section.

I'll post more thoughts as I read more, but these are just my 2 cents.

The starship combat system given here is not a tactical simulation in any way. Nor does it try to be. It is meant as an extension of the RPG itself. While not as abstract as other space combat systems, it isn't meant to be used with miniatures or coutners on a map or grid.

So I guess the answer would be, you really don't need a grid.
