    Making a Linguist Like Hoshi

    Anyone have any Ideas on how to make a character like Hoshi?
    She knows fluently 30+ languages, can teach them to others, can pick up an alien language she has never heard in under 24 hours well enough to understand, and given a few days well enough to translate.

    I'm wondering if shes actually telapathic and just doesn't know it.
    Hmm... that could be intresting.

    I'd suggest using a new Special Ability: Narrator's Fiat, with a specialization on languages.

    I must be suffering from Deja-vu again (note to self: no Romulan Ale before bed). I'm almost positive there was a thread about this a week or so ago. Joe Dizzy's got a good idea...make up your own Special Ability or an edge like "Natural Linguist". At least this NG has rules for making up your own stuff.

    Here's another idea, using advancements you could just buy a whole sh*t-load of languages AND an a "Natural Linguist" edge.

    I agree with Darth on this one. It's probably safe to say that Hoshi was an experienced Scientist (Linguist...at the very least 3 or 4 advancements under her belt) before she joined starfleet and became a comms officer. It's even possible that she hasn't even taken the Starship Operations Officer elite profession in Season 1, and that's what's she's learning now.

    You could make an edge similar to Eidetic Memory from ICON where you could make a bonus attribute test on ALL languages???

    We could wait until the LE comes out and see what the Natural Linguist Edge gives us....

    (Okay, it's a shot in the dark, but I had to try.)

    Thanks for all the replies and pointing me to the other thread. I will give the character in question the Natural Linguist Trait and just fudge its effects until the LE comes out.
