    ICON Enterprise

Just to show you there are still people out here who not only play LUG Trek, but try to come up with new stuff for it as well.

I admit that a lot of this may look familiar, as I took obvious inspirations from my LUG books. What I tried to avoid is too many packages that give you disadvantages just to balance the point costs. Instead I decided to use some 0-level skills to round out the packages.

    And without further ado:

A note on Energy Weapons: EM pistols like the EM-33 are still the most common sidearm in use by Starfleet. As the new phase pistols are quite similar to this weapon no new specialization should be required for them. PCs can apply their specialization with EM Pistols to Phase Pistols after spending 1 Experience Point and training with a phase pistol for 5 - (skill with EM Sidearms) weeks.

Lancer this is great stuff are you going to be playing this anytime soon. Will there be more to come like the Vulcans. Since the Vulcans are not adept at using the mind meld in this time frame.

Thanks Thierry. Right now I am not planing on playing in the Enterprise era. I did this just because I felt like doing it and had nothing better to do.

As you asked for it - here there be Vulcans:

    VULCAN TEMPLATE

    Attributes
    Fitness 2[6], Strength +1
    Coordination 2[5]
    Intellect 2[6], Logic +1
    Presence 2[5], Empathy -1
    Psi 1[6], Range -1
    Skills
Any Academic Skill (choose Specialization) 2(3)
    Culture (Vulcan) 2(3)

    Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 1(2)
    World Knowledge (Vulcan) 1(2)
    Advantages/Disadvantages
    Strong Will +2
    Objective +2
    Hides Emotions –2
    Code of Honor (Vulcan) –3

Objective: This is an advantage from the Starfleet Academy box. Just in case you don't have it, it provides a +1 test result bonus to all Science Skill checks.
Why not Excellent Chemoreception: I left out this advantage intentionaly. If you want to include it for Vulcan females just do it, but since they will have to supress their 'nasal advantage' while among humans or other many other aliens it's not much of an advantage anyway.

Thierry, sorry to say it, but that's about it for now. Maybe I'll write down some weapon and equipment stats for the Enterprise-era next, but if I do it wont be within the next few days.

Thats okay it will take me a while to play with some character ideas. Right now I am comparing enterprise with TOS to come up with something in between. I am going to use Warp 7 as the next break through.

I think I remember someone mentioning on "Enterprise" that a Vulcan ship (may have been described as a war ship) could make warp 7.5

Could anyone point me to a discussion on "Enterprise"'s warp scale?

Don't forget boys, as far as anyone can tell they are using the old TOS warp scale in Enterprise. That means Warp 5 = 125c, while Warp 7 = 343c.
That's not just a breakthrough, it's a technological quantum leap (pun intended). And Enterprise is using Warp 4.5 more often then not instead of cruising at their top speed AFAICT.
While you can sure use Warp 7 as the next big breakthrough it seems awfully close to the TOS ships speeds to be the standard speed sometime between 2150 and 2200.

As far as the speed of Vulcan ships is concerned there is a dialogue between Archer and Tucker in "Shadows of P'Jem" when they talk about the shipbuilding on the planet they are going to visit. Goes something like: "they are said to have ships that can fly circles around the Vulcans. Some are even said to have achieved Warp 7!" Now either our two heroes have been deceived about the speed of Vulcan ships or 7.5 is too high, even for the Vulcans.
Personaly I would go with the later, as Warp 7.5 would make Vulcan ships of the ENT era faster then many ships of the TOS Era (over 100 years later). If the Vulcans already have such advanced technology, what is there left for others to invent during the comming years?

Anyway, before you go on and make up stats for ships of the Enterprise era I would suggest you wait for Ship Recognition Manual 4: The TOS Era that should be out "real soon".

Even if you don't use Spacedock it will give you a lot of data on 23rd century ships for your comparisons.
In addition there will be a lot of tables stating at which time specific systems become available. While these dates are not necessarily identical with canon (and NX-01 breaks several of these guidelines) it might still prove usefull to you.

IMHO the one major problem with the NX-01 is that it is more advanced than any other ship of the pre-TOS era I have seen so far, at least as far as earlier Starfleet ships are involved. The same goes for your design as well.

This is much better than the Daedalus-class (stats in the TOS Core Rules, page 142) and in some ways, especially speed, better than the Ranger class built 2215 (same book and page). Standard and cruising speeds are even slightly better than the NCC-1701's.

Maybe you want to consider the following points:
    • The NX-01 clearly falls into the Size 5 category, as far as physical dimensions are concerned, but for a ship of that time I think 150 Structural Points is a bit too high (and shouldn't that be 100? It's 20 Size IIRC). With less structural points (maybe 60-70) and a Size of 5 the ship would be easier to hit (i.e. be less maneuverable) than later ships with the same Structur. IMHO a good way to represent an earlier, less advanced state of technology.
    • I think a warp speed of about 3.5/4.5/5.5-6.0 would be just fine and still represent a major improvement over the NX-01. (Personaly I would consider even that as too high a speed, but YMMV.)
    • How about lowering the impulse speed to .4c/.66c, the same as the Daedalus-class? It's no big difference, but still less advanced than 23rd century ships (Ranger, Constitution, etc.).
    • 150 is a lot of power. I haven't checked the numbers, but do you think you really need it? It's the same as the Klingon D-9 cruiser built 100years later. 100-120 should be enough for most situations.
    • The sensor ranges look good to me, but I would only give them a +0 each and not +1, at least in some categories.
    • Instead of the 'Phaser Cannon II' you might want to use the stats for the Laser Cannon of the Daedalus: Better range, lower accuracy. OTOH I like the severely limited range. That's a nice touch and well in line with what we know about the NX-01 so far.
    • The Torpedoes I like very much. The damage looks good compared to the weapons on other ships we have stats for and the range is again something I like. Only change I would make is to reduce the spread to 1 or 2. I guess what you intended were 6 forward and 2 aft tubes, but spread is the number of missiles that can be fired from a single launcher in one round and 6 is more like the standard spread of 24th Century ships.
    • That's a lot of shuttles you have there, but if you really think you need them...

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion and as stated above, your mileage may vary.
My final suggestion would be to build a ship that fits the game you want to play. If you want to have lots of combat the ship should stand a fighting chance against many and varied opponents (unless you are feeling very cruel ). OTOH if you want to emphasize how new humanity still is to deep space exploration a less advanced ship might be a better choice.

I tried to paste the ship picture in here it didn't work. Imaging Enterprise-A with a weapons pob from the Miranda attached to the top. The nacells mounted low like the nebula. If saw the picture you might give me more stuff to go on.
