Oh boy here we go again - P. Stewart on Enterprise?

This was posted on Trek Nation Today:

Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer) recently said that there has been talk of some high profile guest appearances on Enterprise.
"There's talk about them travelling back in time to us," Bakula told Star Trek Monthly. "Rick Berman was talking about bringing Patrick Stewart in somehow and bringing Whoopi Goldberg in.

"They're great, but there's no rush. I really hope they don't do that until year two or three, because there’s so much of our character relationships that we still have to explore."

He went on to talk about the atmosphere on the set. "We have such a great cast. I've always enjoyed being on the set. The hours are so long and the work is so hard when you're there - if you can't have fun while you’re there and enjoy the people that are there for the hours, it's a long time to be there. We're always playing - we're always having a good time."
Either they have decided to sart to say this stuff to just piss people off with no plan to actually do it or there as dumb as all!
Ok Guienin is alright we knew she has been lurking around the old Alpha Quadrant for at least 300 years by that point and she would have a natural curoisity for any ship named Enterprise. But Picard!, my god all of us who have stood the "arrows of outrageous fortune" in defending the show would be powerless against this and frankly I would be so disappointed I would disown the show from Trekdom like so many others who still watch it.

Ok the only way it might work is if Q still putting Picard and Humanity ontrail brings Archer and others forward to show what Humans are really like but other than that I don't see how it could be done. Of course when they return to the 21st century they all forget what happens.

There's nothing that says Stewart has to play Picard. Did Ethan Phillips play Neelix when he was on Enterprise? Nope, didn't think so.

Even if he appears as Picard, which I don't think he will, I would have to reserve my judgement till I see how they handle it in the story. I seem to remember that the true events of First Contact didn't make it into the history books in Enterprise's time period.

For that matter, the events of "Trials and Tribbleations" didn't make it into Kirk's log, either.

So someone from the future comes back in time and is in an episode. Woo.

Didn't... err... Matt Frewer do that? Or pretend to do that? But he actually took the place of a REAL time traveller from the 26th century... which shows, at least, that time travellers WERE travelling to the 22nd century... hmm, temporal war... there's a tie-in there somewhere, I just know it.

Well, he might play a Picard.

But he would not be the starship captain Jean-Luc of the 24th century that we all know. He could portray one of his ancestors in the long line of Picards.

The point is is that yes Ethan Phillips did play a role in Enterprise as an Actor but he had played other roles before, besides Neelix, further Rene Auberjoinis, Tim Russ, Steven Combs etc... before they became main characters. So there is a bit of toleration and give and take in seeing them play other roles. However somebody like Stewart is too fixed in the fans minds as Picard having him play somebody else is useless for the majority of fans he is and will always be Picard.

For producers who have a bad reputation for using the Time Travel card how do you think this will really sit with the fans?

I wonder how Stewart would feel about such a lack of faith in his acting abilities?

"I'm sorry Mister Stewart, you can't play any part other than Captain Picard in a Star Trek show. That image is just too fixed in our minds."

Let's not even bother to consider that the man has 49 years of acting experience under his belt, or that he has played in such varied works as Shakespeare, Dune, Consipracy Theory, Jeffery, Moby Dick, and yes, even an appearance on Sesame Street.

But the Star Trek viewer won't be able to see him as anything other than a single role he played (albeit for seven years and 3, soon to 4 movies)? Give me (and Stewart) a break!

Apparently just as well as everything else they've done on Enterprise. Why break the trend now?

Here's an idea that will prob get critics to gag twice. Stewart playing a Romulan starship captain. Personally, I think I'd like to see that. However, I seriously don't think they'll do it.

I'm with REG. We all saw the family portrait on the wall of the Picard Ancestor at Trafalgar... Oh, look, it looks like Patrick Stewart... So the family resemblance has held for at least 600 years... So thats not a huge jump...

And even if he does play Jean-Luc... Why not... The temporal cold war allows for all that, whether you like it or not.

Besides, you know where the off button is.

And as for the Matt Frewer connection to the 22nd century. I had tortally forgotten about that! I guess thats a stick in the eye for all those 'Enterprise is breaking continuity' statements of months ago...

From the rumors I've seen they only mention Picard and not Patrick Stewart.

So unless Picard is our only visualization of Stewart's acting ability. Then I take this as Cpt Picard appearing in some form or another through the Temporal Cold War.

Guinan atleast is alive at the time

Doug, I admit I was not clear enough, I was not refering to all of Stewarts acting, just that in Star Trek he is fixed in One Star Trek role in the fans mind, hey for me its always been Sejanus playing a starfleet officer after all! (though John Lehr will now be a powerfull image to get rid off.)

Rumors be damned, the conversation that the rumors are based on doesn't mention Picard or Guinan. In the interview, Bakula mentioned bringing Stewart and Goldberg to the show. Whoopi may not even reprise her role as Guinan if she appears.
