    Post Questions about Torpedo Damages

    Hi all
I'm new to the system (LU) and am a little fuzie about the damages from mult. torp. launchers, and spreds. example;a starship with two forward torp. tubes and 2 aft. fires both forward torp. tubes 1 torp. each. (lets say damage is 20 from the torp) both hit, would the damage then be 40 or 21?

Twenty-one, unless shields were down, then it'd be 40.

Yea, a lot of people don't like it, but that's the rules as written. Feel free to change 'em if you'd like.

Phaser multi-fire is even more useless, unless you've got Power to waste (and not many of the starships do).

What really gets annoying is when you have multiple ships, for example. Take two small Klingon Scouts against one Galaxy-class -- they can rip the Galaxy apart.

You really want to get dirty, whip out a Miranda-class and open a can of whoop ass!

The starship combat system, by far, is the weakest point about LUGTrek. However, that isn't a big problem (for me), as Star Trek isn't entirely about combat. My combats are cinematic and I usually, ahead of time, know what the outcome is going to be.

If you're prepared to download it and print it off (198 pages), check out the Spacedock supplement available free via these boards! The multifire rules in that are better, in my opinion. It also includes rules for excessive damage "leaking" through the shields.

    Cool

Following is an excerpt from my webpage for using the FUDGE rpg system for LUG:STNGRPG.
While the following is FUDGE based, I think the idea may be useful.
The only addition I would make here is that instead of going through Mr. Mikelson's process of coming up with the attributes for a starship, I would simply take LUG's Size specs for the starships and add 30 for a quick conversion. For example, a size class 6 starship in LUG system would become scale 36 in Fudge. This works great from escort size vessels on up. I haven't done any work on shuttles or assault shuttles, but their scale size should be fairly easy to figure out. Starship based weaponry and shields are a 1 to 1 conversion. The only change I make here is the shield reduction due to damage. I've made it that a shield is reduced by a # of points equal to one-half of the damage. For example: A 15 point disruptor blast strikes the forward shield. This shield has not been damaged previously and is at full strength, which is 20 pts. One-half of 15 is 7(rounded-down in favor of the defender). So the 20 pt. strength shield is reduced by 7 to a new level of 13. Another 15 point blast next strikes the shield. 2 points penetrate the shield (15 - 13 = 2). The shield is reduced by another 5 points (.5 x 15 = 7) to a level of 6.

Didn't he say 2 tubes fired 1 torp each?
Wouldn't tjat be a mutiple action and thus 2 seperate torps and thus 40 pts dmg irregardless of shields.

If not then I must of misread the rules.

As far as I thought the 1pt extra dmg per extra torp hitting shields was from a spread of torps from a single tube.
