New Narrator from Portugal (series ideas)

    Hello from Portugal!

Yes, that's right! There's a few of us on this corner of the world that play Star Trek, although too few for my tastes. If there's more out there, don't be shy.

I really think they pulled it off with the PG and NG. My campaign will take off in a few weeks and I'm still juggling a few ideas. I want an exploratory campaign, but set in the 23rd century. It does not matter the exact time period since it all hinges around a stable wormhole owned by a civilization who petitioned to enter the UFP using the wormhole as leverage (I was inspired by a Next Generation episode on this one, I can't recall exactly which one).

The wormhole is stable on both ends and the UFP has crossed it and established a base from where exploratory ships are sent from to boldly go where no man has gone before... I want my Crew to be part of one such ship, but I don't want it to be as large as a Galaxy- or Constitution class vessel. Perhaps some along the lines of the NX-01 (I haven't watched the series yet, but I believe the Crew is less than a hundred, correct me if I'm wrong).

Some of the players I want to lure into playing the game are not into Starfleet Officers so I was considering using a scientific vessel of some sort. Bear in mind, that these are loose ideas rattling in my brain that I've to put into solid shape.

One thing is certain: one of the players wants to play a Klingon soldier or security officer, so this sets the series somewhere during the TNG or DS9 era. This is will be a mostly episodic campaign partly due to game schedule constraints and partly due to my own tastes. The campaign would be set on a distant quadrant.

Any additional ideas? One good brainstorm and I could use some elements. Sometimes it just takes a good idea.

Hello Dwarin and Welcome to the Boards.

You've chosen a good setting. I believe the TNG species refers to the Barzans as having a semi-stable Barzan wormhole which was featured later in VOY. You could use this as the start; a small exploratory vessel is sent through and establishes a remote outpost. The wormhole whoever, cannot stay open indefinetily in one, it closes and returns every three months lets say for about a week. This would allow you to avoid the higher Chain of Command and to let your players explore at their leisure. It would also give the series a more TOS feel, a few intrepid officers searching the darkness of space and far away from home without the VOY return home part.

    Just my thoughts...

    Ship

My recomendation is making a smaller ship size maybe a scout. If you need any help just ask me or email me directly at usspinnacle@hotmail.com....

I think I know what you are doing as far as the ship. I would suggest a size 4 or 5.

Yes, although I remember that the wormhole in question left two Ferengi stranded light years away from home and it was surmised that one of its ends was stable and the other was not.

Exactly, although I was aiming more at a stable wormhole on both ends. The Crew would be part of an exploratory starship, but there would always have the option of returning home. I want this for two reasons, mainly: a) I may want to insert a few more "classic" episodes (i.e. in known space), b) I want to avoid the feeling of isolation, of being stranded light years from home. This is not a race for survival, but of exploration.

Also, it would be nice to have some episodes in which the UFP expands into this new corner of the universe. Some first contact missions, some new planets petitioning to enter UFP, and so on.

Since the Crew will start in the lower ranks, it would also be nice to roleplay career evolution as the Crew is promoted and, someday, seat on the command chair of the starship. I feel that a starship is as much a character of the series as the Crew itself.

    Hello Dwarin and welcome

Aforementioned wormhole was destablized on both ends before the Ferengi entered it at the end of the Voyager episode "False Profits" IIRC

I'm still tackling with the idea of a new class of ships, specially fitted to explore the new quadrant. The USS Magellan or USS Columbus (Horizon-class). This would be a class of scout ships used during the Federation-Tholian war: emphasis on sensors and speed with adequade offensive systems. With the end of the war and the discovery of the stable wormhole into the Delta Quadrant, the Federation refits these for deep space exploration.

I also intend to start before Picard and the Enterprise are sent to the Delta Quadrant by Q. So the Federation is not aware of such great threat. After all, the wormhole doesn't come close to Borg space. One nice touch: the Crew learns (during the series) of what happens to Picard and the Federation is aware of the Borg. This could mean a transfer to a new ship (perhaps as the result of a promotion), although it may be tricky to pull this off.

And later, they could participate in the battle of Wolf 359. Meanwhile, they have their own problems in the Delta Quadrant with the discovery of strange new civilizations and space phenomena.

Anyone knows where I can learn more about the Federation-Tholian war or can fill in the blanks for me?

Bear in mind that this is a loose list of things I think would be cool to include in my series.
