Yup. James Forrestal was the first SecDef. He was committed for paranoid tendancies when he claimed he was being followed by Mossad agents. Despondent at being confined, he jumped to his death from the 12 floor window of his hospital room. Ironically, Mossad agents had been following him to try & judge the amount of contact he had with Arab governments. To be quite honest, I don't know. A friend of mine had been on the Forrestal, and it's nickname was the FID, which was an acronym of the ship's motto. It's probably something Forrestal said. It could also refer to the fact that he was the first Secretary of Defense, as opposed to Secretary of War. Anybody know for sure?
