I suspect it was rather more aimed at my post, BC. I didn't mean to risk politicizing the thread. I just felt the first one fit the Trek mindset very well. And the second fit the Furies game so well that we retcon'd it as our plaque quote. Itseemed a shame not to share it. I can remove the date & location from it, so that it's less contriversial.

In my series long ago concerning the Sto-vo-gnan (see Gates of Sto-vo-Kor) there were four quoted dedication plaques.

Starbase 8637 aka Gate of Eden
~A many splendored path found my feet, and with it, I found my home.~

Iconian Temple Center aka Gates of Sto-vo-Kor
~Running by, I claimed my enemy's throat. Death smiled as I took its head.~

U.S.S Fortitude - Fortitude Class (fan made)
    ~Seeking the stars, I have discovered myself.~

IKV Lojmit Polwi' (literally, Gate Keeper) - Vor'cha Class
~We are the Sto-vo-gnan, and we keep the gods dead.~ From the oath of the Sto-vo-gnan.

    The USS Jay - "Snoogins!"

    The USS Bob - "______"

The USS Sun Tzu: "If I determine the enemy's disposition of forces while I have no perceptible form, I can concentrate my forces while the enemy is fragmented. The pinnacle of military deployment approaches the formless: if it is formless, then even the deepest spy cannot discern it nor the wise make plans against it." ---Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

I was thinking this for either a Paladin Class Warship (USS Galahad), or a Scarab Class Heavy Cutter (used for border patrols of Cardassia)(Hmmm…USS Kord??? But that’d be an inside joke):

“He who fights with monsters might take care, lest he thereby become a monster...” -Friedrich Nietzsche

Another one, something original (at least I’ve never heard it), hasn’t been assigned yet:
“Remember; within you IS the power to do tremendous good AND unspeakable evil. Choose wisely your decisions and path…for ‘turnarounds’ are few, and regrets may be many.”
...and that's about the time it hit the fan...

    Truisms I know:
    1) Marvel is NOT better than DC (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘ULTIMITED’),
    2) D20 is NOT the best gaming system out there (nor should EVERYTHING be ‘crammed’ into it),
    3) And No matter how ‘THEY’ dress it up, Regardless of how ‘THEY’ title it, and even if ‘THEY’ say “BASED ON…”; “ENTERPRISE” IS NOT STAR TREK!!!
    4) 'Reality' T.V. ain't 'Real'

    Tenders

Ship quotes for TOS/TMP/ENT era Tenders (which would be likely to carry food until the advent of shipboard replicators (I believe the Galaxy and contemporaries were intended to be the first with this system installed aboard at construction, as it seems to be somewhat new in Season 1 of TNG))

Never did a great man hate wine.
    François Rabelais

Wine is light, held together by water
    Galileo

I love everything that's old; Friends, time, books and wine!
    Oliver Goldsmith

Wine is the most healthful and hygienic of all beverages.
    Louis Pasteur

Beer is made by men, wine by God!
    Martin Luther

God loves fermentation just as dearly as he loves vegetation.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson

A book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, A Loaf of Bread, and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness--
    On, Wilderness were Paradise enow!
Omar Khayyam (12th century persian scholar and poet)

Better be jocund with the fruitful Grape
Than sadden after none, or bitter fruit.
    Omar Khayyan

The Grape that can with Logic absolute
    The Two-and-Seventy jarring Sects confute:
The sovereign Alchemist that in a trice
Life's leaden metal into Gold transmute.
    Omar Khayyan

Beer is the living proof that God loves us...
    Benjamin Franklin

Drunkenness is the vice of a good constitution, or of a bad memory! Of a constitution so treacherously good, that it never bends until it breaks; or of a memory that recollects the pleasures of getting drunk, but forgets the pains of getting sober.
    Colton

    Wine is at the head of all medicines;
where wine is lacking, drugs are necessary.
    from the Babylonian Talmud

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,
and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
from the Old Testament, Proverbs 3:10

Plant no tree sooner than the vine.
    Alcaeus

Anyone for food related quotes, lest Starfleet Logistics begin to look more like a Romulan Ale bootleg venture (of course who would be so cynical as to think so is beyond me )

    Unrelated:
    USS Ariel, Miranda class, NCC-1812
"Art is the most passionate orgy within man's grasp" John Donne
    USS Prospero, Miranda class, NCC-1815
"We are such stuff as dreams are made on" Shakespeare, The Tempest

Alright, I haven't seen this one, and if I'm repeating, please forgive me.

USS Forrestal - "First in defense"

I'm an ex-Navy man. I'll check out the other boats I served on and see if their quotes will work.

To be quite honest, I don't know. A friend of mine had been on the Forrestal, and it's nickname was the FID, which was an acronym of the ship's motto. It's probably something Forrestal said. It could also refer to the fact that he was the first Secretary of Defense, as opposed to Secretary of War. Anybody know for sure?
