    Post Klingon Fighting Stuff

I was looking at my character the other day and noticed I had Mok'bara. Since there are no moves designated for this form I was annoyed by the fact I wasted all these points.

Has anyone designed any moves for this form of martial arts? also, has anyone done anything with mekleth or batleth styles in the same form as the fencing or chaka rules from the players guide?

I'm just asking otherwise I'll do my own.

    Cool

John Standford has stats for Mok'bara on his web site (which can be accessed through the Transporter Room section of TrekRPG.Net).

Here's a Bat'leth fighting style I worked up this afternoon. Please note that I lowered the Basic Accuracy of the Bat'leth (listed in the books as 9) to 8 for the Swinging Chop--which I reasoned to be the basic form of attack. YMMV.

    ---------------------------------------------
    NoQ' Jar (Bat'leth Fighting Style)

    Basic Attacks; DAM; DIF

    Block/Parry; -; +2 to Block/Parry
Notes: Parry armed attack: Bat'leth test result establishes Difficulty to hit defender.

    Thrusting Strike; 4+2d6; 7
Notes: Two-handed thrusting attack using just the middle blades.

    Swinging Chop; 5+2d6; 8
Notes: One-handed attack using one end of the Bat'leth.

    Advanced Attacks; DAM; DIF

    Disarm; -; 8/9
Notes: Disarm opponent by "attacking" his weapon. If Bat'leth test succeeds, roll an Immediate Opposed Fitness (+ Strength) Test; the attacker gets a +2 bonus. If the attacker wins, his opponent's weapon is knocked d6 meters away. Difficulty to disarm opponents with two-handed weapons is 9.

    Raking Slash; 4+2d6; 8
Notes: Attacker quickly "rakes" three middle blades of Bat'leth across his opponent.

    Stunning Bash; 3+2d6; 8
Notes: Attacker strikes opponent with blunt end of Bat'leth; causes Stun damage only.

    Mighty Swing; 6+2d6; 9
Notes: Attacker grips Bat'leth with both hands and swings at his opponent.

    Spinning Cleave; 7+2d6; 10
Notes: Attacker spins quickly and strikes his opponent with greater force; two-handed attack with Bat'leth gripped at one end.

    Unbalancing Strike; 5+2d6; 10
Notes: Attacker crouches and swings through opponent's legs, knocking him off his feet. Opponent is prone and must use an action getting to his feet.

Special Techniques: Overhead Swing (+1 damage with Mighty Swing); Sweeping Slash (-1 Difficulty with Swinging chop)

Requirements: Bat'leth skill of 2 or higher (see TNG: Player's Guide for optional rules for Primitive Weaponry specs).
    ---------------------------------------------

In retrospect, perhaps you should make the Mighty Swing another Basic Maneuver. As I recall, that type of attack was seen plenty of times in the tv shows, so I imagine it's one learned early on in training.

Well actually, it's been noted in the series (by no less than Will/Thomas Riker) that the styles of Mok'bara and T'ai Chi are extremely similar, perhaps even identical. If you want to come up with some moves, why not check out a book on T'ai Chi, or its combat form, T'ai Chi Ch'an?

I am no expert on Martial Arts IRL, but if you want some inspiration for designing Mok'Bara rules yourself check out my "Players Guide-Martial Arts" thread on this board.
Not sure, if my "Centauran Tai Chi" would be usefull to you as it is, but maybe it can give you a starting point.

Could somebody point out the TNG episodes where we see Mok'Bara practiced? If I can check it out I, maybe I can come up with something. (That's a definte maybe - I won't promise you anything.)

    Lightbulb

We see some brief examples in Second Chances, the episode when Tom Riker appears as William's "double."

That's the only one I can remember off the top of my head. I'll skim through my tapes tonight and find some more.

    Cool

There are several examples of Mok'bara shown in TNG. The ones that spring immediately to mind are "Second Chances" (as Steve pointed out), "Lower Decks" (Worf gave Sito a "test" in it), and "Birthright, Part II" (Worf taught the Romulan-Klingon teens how to use it).

Hey, that's cool qerlin! Playtest action! Woo Hoo!

How did the maneuvers work out mechanically? Did you find any problems or get any complaints about the difficulties or damage dice? Anything seem to powerful?

I've got several more styles in the works, so I'd like to be able to gauge my number crunching.
