    Deep Space 12 - scenario ideas

    I'm trying to put together the first few scenarios for my DS12 campaign to follow up on the Pilot (so far untitled) and Infestation (see the main thread). Comments will be welcome. Constructive comments.

    The next episode I was thinking about is tentatively titled "The Scent of a Profit". A Ferengi merchant/businessman arrives at DS12 demanding that the Federation allow him to open a trading outpost at DS12 which is a military station, not a civilian port. When he is refused, he leaves and returns a few days later with a freighter filled with material to build a orbital facility near DS12 as a trading post. He knows that the Federation will be duty bound to protect him from the pirates and other nasties. His station goes on line and trade actually improves until our mystery pirate king sends an ex-Obsidian Order operative to the Ferengi station to blow it up as it will ultimately threaten his plans.

    "Sphere" features the arrival of a race from beyond the Milky Way galaxy who arrive via a subspace anomaly with a 'small' Dyson Sphere in tow. The race is dying but say they are willing to give the Sphere and all its technology to the race which can solve the encryption code that prevents access to the Sphere.

    "The Traveler's Return" Captain Chakotay is on leave and hitches a ride home to Dorvan V to attend the wedding of an old friend (an important civic leader on Dorvan V). Dorvan V is a sea of tranquility in DMZ thanks to Chakotay's friend's efforts. Other people take exception to his work, including a rogue Cardassian Gul who Chakotay had a run in with during his Maquis days. Anyway just as things don't seem to be able to get worst, Wesley Crusher suddenly re-appears out of whatever continuity he inhabits (a reaction with the Odyssey's transwap drive?) and rips apart time space in the process. PCs you have your disaster, please fix it.

    "Check & Q" Q decides to make his appearance. If you'd been following my posts on my last campaign you will see that he played a key role in a long running story-arc. Anyway Q is not happy with hte progess his new 'protegee' has made since they last met and decides to test her against an enemy she had not beaten before. Her mirror universe counterpart. Can anyone say 'cat-fight' - not likely.

    "Shuttle Down" this one is just for tension and action. A Federation envoy is trapped during civil disorder on a DMZ world. THe PCs are ordered to rescue him. However, local conditions mean that they can't use the transporters. Enroute back, the shuttle is shot down and crashes inside an enclave which is virulently anti-Federation. Just like the movie. The orbiting ship can't use its phasers and transporters can't be used. So its up to a brave crew of shuttle pilots to go in and get their buddies out.

    If your players are getting too comfortable with their enhanced systems (from the nanites infection), this could be the time to trouble them a bit. For instance, the space time rip could temporarly merge the Odyssey with another version, wich would alter its system again in either way you like (either it downgrades, or upgrades beyond understanding, or for instance fills the computer with false data from an alternate reality - like, for instace, safety margins for the warp engines are not what they should be ). Further, this could threaten the persona of the ship's computer (wich could be another motivation for the players if they grew to like it).

    Small suggestion here, wich may not suit your version of the Mirror Universe : the Mirror CO could have a mirror Odyssey as well - with mirror nanites-enhanced systems. Alternatively, the mirror nanites could still be present - and have some destructive abilities.

    Hope some ideas are useful in there

    Here are a few others.

    "Sarcophagus" a mysterious ship appears carrying a Betazoid in suspended animation. After they thaw him out, he turns out to be charming urbane gentleman but with a strong hint of a mystery especially since no one on Betazed knows who he is. Investigations of his ship show that it is extremely old, dating back to the early days of Betazed space exploration. Search of history archieves turn out nothing until an anomalous record is discovered showing the funding of one more exploration ship than was ultimately launched and absolutely no record that the ship had not been cancelled or destroyed or something. Things begin to go wrong on the station, fights and general unrest. Each incident is averted only by the 'guest's' arrival...stranger and stranger. Ultimately if the PCs figure all the pieces out, they'll find out the Betazoid is actually a meglomaniac terrorist from Betazed's past who had used his powers for twisted means and had went into self-imposed exile by stealing a ship just before he was to be arrested and tried for his crimes. But in the centuries he had grown more powerful, so can the PCs bring him down.


    "The Hound" - Call of Cuthulu time...this one will be saved probably until Halloween. A Hunting Hound of Tindalos is let loose onboard the Odyssey, can the PCs stop it before it kills everyone on the ship...
