    Starship Combat rules...erm...rule!!!

    Hi guys

Just wanted to say after having finally read the Starship Combat rules in the NG properly....they rule!! Possibly the best RPG starship combat system ever? Maybe...!! They certainly reflect the source material perfectly.

    Great job by all concerned!!

I think I have to say Long Tom's right. These are easily the best starship combat rules for an RPG I've read. Hell, the whole books one of the best RPG books I've read.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

I ran the game last night at our local gaming club, and the U.S.S. Sentinel faced FIVE Galor-class Battle Cruisers. Sentinel survived...by getting the heck out of there Afterwards, the player who played the Captain, who had extensive ICON experience in my old campaign, said he loved the new ship combat rules; clean, easy, fast-paced, more like Trek (panels blowing up and stuff like that). He loved the maneuvers, said it gave a great element to the system as you could envision what the ship was doing.

I have only one complaint; no table to determine which bridge panels blow up other than that, a wonderful system it is indeed.

    Whichever is more dramatically appropriate.

"Starships" (whatever they're going to name that damn book) expands the system quite a bit and cleans up some problems, like the damage charts. Move maneuvers, tighter rules for weapons and upgrades, starship renown, starship experience, ship explosions, core breaches, etc.

I agree; it's fun and fast. I hope the sheets in the NG screen include a starship combat sheet/chart. That would really speed things up. The intent was to have all the combat information on the sheets so you mark off your shield strength, check off boxes of structure damage, and have all 6 of your damage charts right there in front of you. Alas, what seemed obvious to me didn't happen in layout.

Thanks for your comments all. It's appreciated and quite gratifying.
