    The Prometheus class in SRM1

I'm rather puzzled by this ship on p.103 of Ship Recognition Manual 1 (Starfleet ships).

The description states that the Prometheus is a size 7 ship, yet it also says that it has an available amount of 3500 SUs...

Now, I know the description says the rules are really just guidelines, but Steve even made a point of noting how the Negh'Var class broke the rules in SRM3, so I was a little surprised that this wasn't even mentioned in the notes for the ship.

After all, as a size 7 ship the Prometheus shouldn't have that many SUs. According to the tables on p.17 of Spacedock, a size 7 ship can have only up to 2750 SUs. To get as many as 3500 SUs a ship would have to be at least size 9 (and that is actually the maximum of a size 9 ship)...

Anybody know the particular reason for this?

'Cause the Prometheus breaks all the rules of starship design. (Okay, most of 'em.) It's darn annoying. I had to do a lot of jumping in "Starhips" to make the Prometheus work so I understand what Steve went through.

I'm sure if we can ever part Steve away from Hero long enough to update Spacedock and the SRMs that he'll fix this to better represent the Prometheus and other ships of its ilk.

Take a look at the rules for the MVAM. They allow for this sort of thing. Otherwise it's just not feasible under the rules.

As Steve said, if you look in the construction manual under MVAM, it says:

A ship with MVAM may use the SU allotment for a ship 2 Size categories larger without increasing it's own size (this is necessary to install all of the redundant systems required for MVAM use.)

So for example, a ship will need 3 warp cores, 3 sets of nacelles and so on. Page 50 of the Construction Manual deals with the MVAM mode.

Aha, it's the Mutli-Vector Assault mode! Okay, I missed that one. That explains right there then. Thanks for the prompt answer guys.
