Velals Romulan Campaign
HHirl
Here is my campaign concept for my Romulan Star Empire-post Nemesis (2378)
This is a summary and there will be gaps-but hey input from everyone could help
I like to stay as true as possible to the TVshow/Movies-First and the RPG background second. But given the lack of Information on Roms-TV wise and how excellent-Way of D'era is they are equal
SPOILER WARNING (I'm utilising some characters/events from the Nemesis script that was online-As I have stated before-I feel given what offically is out there-Press releases/the website/teaser trailer-the online script supports these and vise versa. The film is fairly self contained-Only Enterprise-could invalidate my ideas.)
2378-A painful year for the Romulan Star Empire.
(For the various Romulans-I will put their political Coalition in brackets next to their name, if any)
Before this some notable events took place:
2375-Senator Kimara Cretak is tried for Treason for attempting access to a Tal Shiar Database. Kimara Cretak (Jaridan)is dismissed from the Senate and sent to the Subera Penal colony.
Tal Shiar Chairman Koval (Jol Tan) is elevated to the Continuing Committee much to the chargrin of Jaridan coalition-to which Praetor Neral belongs.
Although there is sufficent evidence that the Federation and the Klingons are weak-Praetor Neral goes against the military wish to take revenge on these two and turn instead upon the surprise threat of the Breen, their large fleet and unique weaponry was a shock to the Romulan military.
These chaotic clan barbarians revealed their real power-and chose to side with the dominion. The treaty and its results were only the beginning in the eyes of the Military. The cardassians were a broken people-too far away in any case.
The Breen, were located right next to the Romulan Star Empire-the agreed reperations were going to used to rebulid the losses of the Dominion war-Koval argued for an increase in the funding of the Tal Shiar-citing-that had the Tal Shiar been rebuilt straight after the Omarian Nebula disaster-the Breen would have been spotted early on.
In reply, The Jaridan faction wheeled out incidents like the botched hijacking of the advanced federation warship prototype and the favoured vice Chairman Vreenaks untimely death, as reasons while the Tal Shiar should keep quiet.
Neral was also wary of this strange insane federation operative and how calmly Koval dealt with him. It was all to "neat"-Neral began his own investigation-also Koval's health problem was exposed and the the new vice chairman of the Tal Shiar-Senator Letant was biding his time.
Now-summary in the 3 years to campaign date-I have the following events occur:
Letant/Neral uncover Kovals "Mole activities" for the Feds.
Koval is "Removed"-Neral suffers the consequences of being Praetor at that time-he is voted out by the Senate. He accepts this openly with grace-secretly he knows the Jaridan faction will be spared any futher trouble because of this-a true patriot.
Before this he gives the go ahead to a plan-the invasion and domination (Best Case) of the Breen or destruction of any organised Breen government (acceptabe result) -
Tal Shiar Chairman Letant-agrees. The military estimates 2-3 years to rebuild to adequate levels-based on the fact the feds and Klingons are just as or worse off.
The Tal Shiar undergos an internal purge as Kovals deception is revealed their activities are limited..
His replacement is Hiren (Nej'ahar) whose platform of rebuild and restore law and order-is popular with the Senate. Hiren charges the Tal Shiar with the elimniation of the Vulcan underground as their primary focus.
Hiren stalls the military at every turn. Soon certain Jaridan Senators/Military officers are dealing with the mysterious Shizon and the now powerful Remans.
Hiren has to go-he has weakned the military greatly with his constant objections to even the Breen invasion. This combined with Shizons persuasive arguments and his revelation of advanced weaponry/Reman shock troops-motivates two powerful
military offciers-Commanders Donatra and Suran to agree to a coup.
They secure most of the fleet for Shizon-He destroys Hiren and the Senate and quickly spends his time is some revenge plan on Federation Captain-Suran is already feeling like a bad deal is now going to fail and agitates for war with the federation.
(The Events of Nemesis-They BETTER not change the Rom warbird look
Do what they want with the Reman ships-I digress
Commander Donatra returns from the destruction of Shizon and the Remans to find Suran and the Jaridan coalition fleets are in open conflict with rival senators not present at the "session" in which shizon struck. The remaning Remans/Shizon cronies are killed.
Donatra and Suran realise a Praetor and Senate need to be rebuilt-Pro Jaridan faction of course-The Idle fleet commanders must have a central focus other than internal powerplays so the Breen Invasion plan is reactivated.
Some other Ideas-Most of the good commanders-Tomalak/Sela are on the Tauhai front-seriiusly they should be in the film-but sigh-thats the way it go's. Sela has such a vested interest in a Rom/Fed war-but I do like a concept that was introduced in the novel: The Romulan Statagem by Robert Greenberger.
Sela is assigned to a Warbird the with a crew of troublemakers, for her involvment in the failed plan to invade Vulcan. I have added that she has been sent to the Tauhai front.
The Players are going to be covertly ordered by Donatra to bring Kimara Cretak alive out of the clutches of the thankfully confused Tal Shiar who are reeling from the implications of Koval being a double agent. (I always like to belive Koval was playing-Section 31-I have had enough of the master spy roms be outwitted by Fed intelligence-but i chose to stick to the show
I have been working on the major Romulan NPCS-There are quite few left alive in the show and interesting enough to expand apon.
Tomalak, Pardek, Letant plus the Way of D'era npcs-Krassus, Merek etc........
I will use the Dominion War Sourcebook by Steve for info on the Fleet numbers and the Breen.
This is of course just a summary and confusing at that-but it should give you an idea where I'm heading
Look foward to hearing any comments
"To be honest, my opinion of starfleet officers is so low. You would have to work very hard indeed, to disappoint me."
Senator Vreenak to Sisko.
