    Political Affiliations

Time for a new poll: describe your political affiliation.

Me: libertarian. I believe in the most freedom for the people with the least government interference.

A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Conservative Republican with occasional Libertarian tendencies.

PS: Here's hoping this thread doesn't break down into a "my philosophy is better than your philosophy" flame war.

Of course it will. There are always those who claim that they are the only ones with the right answers and everyone else is wrong. Not only do they believe that but they also have to show you why you are wrong.

It will be just a little more civilized here than on some of the other forums.

As I described myself in another thread I look upon myself as a Minimalist Socialist.

Yep, a Card Carrying Liberal of long stripe

Still, much like religions & philosophies, i have friends in all camps, including a man who I am trying to convince that he is truly a Libertarian even though he describes himself as a Conservative Republican -- his views are strongly Libertarian and he has yet to see how that and the CR lable don't truly mesh.

And I am proud to say that I have voted in every election I have ever been eligible for -- that way I have a right to b***h about the government.

I would list myself as a Libertarian, but in national elections I'm a single issue voter. The issue there is foriegn policy. Thus, I list myself as a Barry Goldwater-style Republican.

Here in Canada, I vote for the Canadian Alliance, a right-wing conservative party. Alot like the Republicans of the U.S.. Though I personnally advocate for more liberty and I'm partial to the monarchy. None of the options really suit me...really.

I am a card carrying Reformer as well. But, with the last round of Political Fiascos we had recently up here, I 'm not sure who I am voting for.

BTW, as voted on the poll, I am also a card carrying Monarchist.

I am a leftist libertarian myself.

Just a note, why no Democratic choice? You have Republican, but no Democrat.

Did you guys get a book from your MPs asking if you were interested in Senate reform, the national anthem and the right to vote for convicted criminals in jail? Or was that just for ridings that have CA representation?

    -----------------
Still surprised to see eastern people that voted Reform/CA. For those that don't know, our Liberal CBC TV seems to spend a lot of time and money reporting on CA internal problems, while downplaying Liberal corruption. They also give the opinion in their reports that no one east of Manitoba voted CA.

I do find it intriguing, given the definite Liberal-Socialist nature of the the Star Trek universe (at least on the UFP side) that this poll and board seems more popular with the right-hand side of the political spectrum.

This is NOT meant as a slam or a flame, merely a comment. As stated in my post above, I have friends of all stripes.

I shall have to look more closely at the "Why Do YOU Like Star Trek" thread now.

AH! You're right! I thought I'd got 'em all...

Bugger. Probably closest to the labour party, then.
