    Efrosians for Coda

This is the speculative name for the race that was seen in ST IV and VI (a navigator for the Saratoga and a Federation council chamber functionary in ST IV, and the Federation president in ST VI). This racial profile is based on infomation from FASA's Star Trek IV sourcebook.

    Efrosians
Personality: Efrosians are generally friendly and open, a product of the communal living required by the cold climate. Aside from their religion, there are few secrets among the Efrosian people. Strong in faith, they have a heightened sense of right and wrong and the wisdom to understand that they're not always capable of recognizing the difference. Many of the warrior-priests who first represented Efros in the Federation and Starfleet seemed subdued, but very respectful. This was later determined to be part of their religious training.

Physical Description: Efrosians are dark-skinned humanoids with faces chiseled by centuries of harsh living on an arctic world. They stand about even wtih humans, but have more body fat to protect them against the cold climate. Males almost always have fair hair (almost white) and light, almost gray eyes; females, by contrast, have dark hair and dark eyes.

It is shameful for a family to have a boy with dark hair or a daughter with fair hair, and rumors hold that such infants are ritually sacrificed. Other rumors abound that surviving "crossed" children possess "phenomenal" psychic powers.

Homeworld: Efros (of the star of the same name) is a harsh, cold world that only recently (about 1,000 years ago) emerged from a millenia-long ice age.

Culture: Having developed on a world that only recently emerged from an ice age, the Efrosians are ruled by a suprisingly progressive religious oligarchy. As resources became abundant, the Efrosians went from stone age hunters to Federation members in less than a millenium. Their faith is highly secretive, and Efrosians do not share anything of their religion with outsiders, leading to sometimes wild speculation about "child-sacrifice" and "ritual murder." Efrosians deny these claims, but otherwise guard their religion jealously.

Efros first contacted the Federation in 2277 and gained membership in 2284. In the late 23rd Century, most Efrosians who join Starfleet come from the ranks of ruling warrior-priests.

    Language: Efrosian, Federation Standard

Favored Profession: Mystic, Starship Officer (Medical, Flight Control)

Species Adjustments: None. Efrosians are human in most respects.

    Species Abilities
Adapted to Cold: Efrosians long ago adapted to the harsh nature of their world, and routinely ignore the effects of even the most extreme arctic temperatures (rules for the Resistance trait are found on p. 220 of the NG). By contrast, their specialized adaptability has rendered Efrosians extremely vulnerable to fire and extreme heat. (Rules for the Vulnerability trait are found on p. 221 of the NG.)

Radiation Resistance: The ozone layer over Efros is virtually non-existant, and Efrosians have adapted to the harsh radiological conditions on their planet. (Rules for the Resistance trait are found on p. 220 of the NG.)

UV Vision: Efrosians eventually began to take advantage of the abundance of cosmic and ultraviolet rays on their planet, and can see as clearly at night as they do in the day.

A World of Faith: All Efrosians start out with 3 levels of Religion (Efrosian).

Editor's Note: The picks breakdown for Efrosian abilities are as follows:
Resistance: Extreme Cold (9), Vulnerability: Fire (-12), Resistance: Radiation (12), Extraordinary Sense: UV Vision (3), Religion (Efrosian) skill (4). Total: 16.

    Thanks for this, SeaTyger.

Now I have choices for my player who wanted to be "You know, like that guy who was the president in Star Trek VI..."

That's what led to my post on the more general ST board
