Built to replace the HE-826 class destroyer escort, the SE-319 is designed to operate in wings of 3-5 ships. Not capable of long term independent service, most SE-319 wings are assigned to outposts or fleets.

The class is scheduled to receive an armor upgrade in 2379.

Aztagra Design Bureau shocked the industry when it edged Bez-Goru for the lucrative "R-24" program, designed to introduce a secondary capital ship type to the Alliance Navy arsenal.

Although slower than the Bez-Goru proposal, the AR-41 proved sturdy and nimble for a vessel of its size, with more than adequate firepower to support fleet operations. The dreadnought took over most of the duties previously assigned the MD-8/MD-28 battle cruiser, commanding smaller battle groups and acting as the secondary command vessel in larger fleets.

The ship received a massive refit in 2346, improving operations, sensors and propulsion, and upgrading part of the vessel's torpedo system. The original refit called for a complete upgrade, but Central HQ balked at the idea when they discovered that some structure would have to be removed to support it. A compromise was eventually reached that would satisfy the need for uprated torpedoes and Central HQ's desire to maintain the ship's stability in battle.

Relegated to the reserve fleet in lieu of the BR-19, the AR-41 expects to be completely phased out by 2390.

The AH-412 represents the pinnacle of Gorn starship technology. Another surprise victory for the Aztagra Design Bureau, this massive battleship dwarfs nearly every other ship in the IGN arsenal, yet remains amazingly nimble for a heavy warship. With the latest in Gorn deflector shield technology and massive Type X-E (enhanced) blasters, the 412 is capable of going toe-to-toe with the Romulan D'Deridex warbird.

The entire program is ambitious, as the IGN is clearing all of its berths out to produce the class en masse. Shipyard HQ is hoping for a production rate of nine 412s each year, an almost unheard of number for a large capital ship.

The venerable Vh'magro Design Bureau continued its tradition of scout craft production with the VZ-54 class scout destroyer. Replacing the old VA-3/VA-53 scout cruiser, the VZ-54 focuses more on speed and its highly specialized sensor package, rather than the more general exploratory design.

The class received an propulsion and sensor package upgrade in 2345, extending the vessel's service life as Vh'magro neared completion on the next generation of sensor system. As the new VZ-56 scout destroyer comes online, Central HQ has begun to phase the 54's out.

As the Gorn catch up with the rest of the major powers in sensor capability, the VZ-56 represents the pinnacle of IGN scout design. Both the new Class 4 sensor system and the VZ-56 were designed and built by the Vh'magro Design Bureau, which has been the lead bureau in sensing systems for nearly two centuries.

The VZ-56 attempts, somewhat successfully, to be more of a tactical warship than its predecessor. Undergunned by necessity (the sensor suite requires more than 18 percent of the ship's space), the VZ-56 is nonetheless able to hold its own in most situations, as it is required to almost exclusively operate independently, or in tandem with another of its class.

This dual capability freighter replaced two different types of vessels in the Gorn military arsenal. A peacetime freighter capable of keeping the fleet supplied in all corners of the frontier, the GV-635 class armored freighter can be quickly converted into a troop transport within 24 hours.

Central HQ is looking to replace the 635 at the turn of the century.

The success of the SS-315 class (heavy) destroyer prompted Central HQ to commission a second class of the new sub-type. Freighter specialist Gezz Design Bureau won the contract, producing a solid design that was faster at impulse and more powerful at close range.

As of 2375, the GS-641 has assumed the primary assault role first developed for the 315. Central HQ expects to improve the ship's structure in a 2378 refit.

The ZG-73 class heavy cruiser represents the revival of a designation that hadn't been used in over 100 years. Taking a concept brought back by a Gorn diplomat's visit to Andoria in 2348, the 73 sacrifices blaster power for a phenomenal stand-off capability.

The ZG-73's were immediately assigned to squadrons of SS-315s (and, later, GS-641s) as long-range complements to the close-in combat specialist heavy destroyers.

Central HQ is looking at ways to upgrade the vessel for the next 30 years, including adding ablative armor.

The ZA-75 class light cruiser was primarily built to augment the IGN's exploration arm, but ended up being tapped as the successor to the MA-225. The vessel is one of the fastest ships in the fleet, sacrificing firepower for sensor capacity and pure speed.

Originally scheduled for a refit in 2376, the allocation of most of Shipyard HQ's available berths for AH-412 construction has pushed the 75's upgrade back until 2378, where it is expected to receive ablative armor.

The HE-826 class destroyer escort was the product of changes to early 23rd Century destroyer designs. As destroyers grew larger, the need for small escort ships became apparent, resulting in the SE-2 and HE-20/HE-820 classes that dominated the latter half of the 23rd Century. The natural successor to those E-type pioneers was the HE-826, a "tough little ship" that could run circles around many of its larger cousins.

Deployed in wings of 3-4 ships, the 826 was most efficient as a fleet support ship, rarely operating independently.

The escort remained an active part of the fleet well after the SE-319 came online, receiving a refit in 2357 that extended its service life into the 2370s. The last of the 826's should leave the fleet by 2377.

The HA-837 is a ship that defies traditional classification. While it is technically a light cruiser, built for speed and mission flexibility, the 837 has been nominally called a "strategic command cruiser" for its augmented operational capability.

With a top speed of Warp 9.95, the 837 is the fastest ship in the fleet, but seriously undergunned for its size (over 300 meters long). Instead, the cruiser focuses on operational and command capacity, including a fully-functional "flag officer" suite that sports the latest in C4I support technology.

While Central HQ isn't talking, analysts believe the HA-837 will take over the role of primary command ship in many fleets, representing a major change in Gorn fleet tactics.

Okay, that's the last of the 24th Century Gorn ships. I plan to write up a political essay on the Alliance/Imperial government in the next couple of days. Look for it in the Narrator's forum.

I'd like to use these in a campaign I'm starting. Gorn make great bad guys. So little is known about them, you take them in interesting directions.
