Akira...though the refit Connie is neck & neck for me.
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Intrepid and Constitution refit make joint first place in my book.

Okay, I'm kinda odd that way, but I LIKED the Oberth.

    Why?

Because it was a purely scientific vessel, no pretense at being all things to all people. The Defiant is a great li'l warbunny. The old Constitution was a good run. The Ambassador and Galasy classes were schizophrenic -- heavily armed explorers who did diplomatic missions and grain shipment runs. The Oberth, like the Defiant, was designed for a specific task, in this case scientific exploration.

I like that for my adventures -- if the crew has fewer phasers to rely on, they are forced to think instead of quickdraw.

    Oberth

I never liked the Oberth, thought it was ugly. I do like your idea and I was thinking about the Nova class. It is the same just updated for later era games.

The Connie refit will always be my favorite, partly because I grew up with the first three movies. A very, very close second is the Sovereign (for reasons that would probably get me arrested in Alabama ).

Nova and Defiant are best for RPGs... allow crew to hold senior positions and still get involved in the day-to-day operations and missions...

But my favorite is the Nebula. All the capability of the Galaxy, without the dorky look.

    The Nebula class for me.

The inside can be described as similiar to the Galaxy class for rpg purposes. Additionally, it has the added flexibility of the interchangeable pod. Though, the canon of whether or not the pod system exists is in question (I think).

Akira, followed closely by (in no particular order) the Steamrunner, Norway, Sabre and Defiant.

Having been 'hooked' since '69, I enjoy the departures from the 'typical' design aesthetic.

    Prometheus is very cool, too!

Roll Tide! (gag) Of course, this is coming from a Huskers fan, so, please, fire away.

Okay, I'm obviously in a silly mood today. I think I'll just go back to posting my converted FASA characters in the Narrator's section. (Speaking of, Dan, did you make a decision on whether that should be in the Narrator's or the System and Mechanics forum?)
