    WS FTP Pro+Frontpage+Hit Counters?

Have any people had problems with this combination before?

My hit counter doesn't appear to work and I did find a site that said frontpage and ws ftp pro had some trouble with hit counters from frontpage.

If you got the time can you swing by my site:

    www.nnsw.quik.com.au/sirsig

To both test the counter and see if it is ticking over more then just 1.

    Thanks

I can't seem to get it to increment at all.

It says you have had 1 page hit, and I've been to three computers in the office.

I even just sat here and hit refresh for a couple of minutes, which works on most counters.

No advice, I don't do websites. Just FWIW.

Ack. I abandoned FrontPage eons ago, mostly because it's so testy. The problem is that you can't use WSFtp (or any other FTP program) to transfer your pages--FrontPage relies on a series of hidden directories and permissions to control many of its features, such as hit counters.

I'd blow the whole site away, re-install the FP extensions (if possible) and re-up your pages using the built-in upload program in FP.

Short story: if you use FP you pretty much have to use it to transfer your pages or else you'll break stuff.

My other suggestion is to abandon FP ASAP and move to Dreamweaver.

You know, I've been using Front Page and WS FTP for a long time and never had any problems. Mind you, I'm not really doing anything really outlandish or "cool" with Front Page. in fact, the only reason I have it at all is for my wife to use. (Most of my own web page editing is done in notepad at work...)

The counter I have on my index page is from ultimatecounter.com, and It's worked fine for years.

That's why. If you use the FP counter it (FP) relies on the contents of those hidden directories (and their permissions). Unless you properly transfer them over via FTP you'll cause problems.

It's a real pain in the butt. That's why I recommend you let FP handle the transfer internally if you plan to use any of FP's unique features.

That's kind of what I figured.

That's why my web page isn't very fancy. I tend avoid things that would be program-dependant or that I don't really know how to do manually.

Well thanks for the advice guys.

I thought as much, even though all the fp extensions had been set.

I was thinking about a 'commercial counter' anyways. I might just check out Doug's since he's using FP as well.

    Thanks.

Well after checking out Doug's site. I registered with Ultimate Counter and hooked it up.

    Everything is cool now.

    Thanks!
