They have some of the most deeply incomprehensible poetry in the known galaxy. It can be , and has been, used for Interrogation purposes ...

Of the above, which ones have appeared/been referred to in other series? I know that the Axanar and the Coridan have been (in TOS), and I seriously doubt that the Valakians have been (by the time of TOS, they're probably extinct), but what about the others?

Risans, of course, have been seen in both TNG and DS9 episodes. The Malurians were mentioned by name in "The Changeling" TOS (where they and their planet get "steeerilizzed"! Poor lizardy "V"-dudes!)
Don't think any of the others have been seen or mentioned in any other series.

    LORILLIANS ("Broken Bow")

    FIT: 2 [5]

    INT: 2 [5]

Adpative Respiration: Adult Lorillians can breathe virtually any atmosphere that contains at least trace amounts of oxygen, in any form. Their respiratory tract is designed to filter necessary elements out of complex gas molecules and is resistant/nonreactive to other elements. This makes them functionally immune to inhaled toxins, with the exception of strongly corrosive gases, since their multi-lobed lungs do not allow harmful gases to be absorbed into the bloodstream.
(They are NOT immune to toxins that are ingested or introduced to the bloodstream through any other means, such as injection).

Poor (No) Chemoreception. Lorillians have no sense of smell.

Lorillian hearing tends to be weaker than human standard and they are somewhat nearsighted as a species.

Distrust: Other Lorillians from different blood lines.

Lorillia is a rugged, mountainous world which is very volcanically active. The atmosphere is thick and divided into chemically discrete layers determined by altitude. Each layer has its own indigenous ecology. The lower altitudes have a thick methyl oxide atmosphere and though the oldest of the active biospheres, it is also the most primitive. Most advanced species have developed in the mid-ranges where standard nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere is most common. Individual mountains and mountain ranges have distinct species, rather like those that evolve on isolated islands.
The humanoid Lorillians adapted to take advantage of this ecology. They breed and raise their young in the lowest levels, where no large predators exist to threaten them. When they mature, they migrate upwards to the standard atmosphere altitudes, where more food is available. Though more populated, these levels also tend to be too small in area to support large numbers of the humanoid Lorillian species. This has led to the development of very insular, clannish cultures which rarely intermingle and are distrustful of outsiders.

Though they did not develop space travel on their own, the Lorillians were quick to adapt to it when they were contacted by other Warp-capable species. Their ability to breathe many different atmospheres put them in high demand as scouts, diplomats and trade negotiators. Lorillians are able to serve as the go betweens for Species who do not have mutually compatible environmental needs. They have used the resources this brings them to advance their own technology.
Different regions on Lorillia have very different tech levels, depending on how successful they have been in marketing their services to warp-capable aliens.

    Code of Honor: Cultural Taboos
Intolerant: Anyone who breaks their taboos.

Kreetassans regard eating in public to be a scandalous violation of their cultural taboos. Despite some comments to the contrary, the association of eating with sex, especially in taboos and language, suggest that for Kreetassans, well, what humans would consider foreplay are in fact the "main event".

Easily angered by those violating their taboos, the Kreetassans are somewhat ethnocentric in outlook, but are reasonable enough to overcome their sense of outrage if presented with a sincere apology.

Our country's past progress has been the result, not of the mass mind applying average intelligence to the problems of the day, but of the brilliance and dedication of wise individuals who applied their wisdom to advance the freedom and the material well-being of all of our people.

Thanks for the kind words, Mac & Perrryyy!

Now. Howzerbout some scenario seeds using these aliens?

THE BEAST OF AXANAR: A group of Eska hunters seek permits to visit the homeworld of the Axanar to hunt a particularly challenging but rare predatory beast on one of the planet's less explored continents. They have a Lorillian scout acting as go-between with the locals. The Eska themselves have to wear environment suits during the hunt. BUT! The hunt was arranged by a Mazarite with contacts in the Axanar government (and the Orion Syndicate). The beast the Eska are hunting is both endangered and sacred to a native group of Axanar. This group is a minority that the central government does not pay much attention to. Also, the beast has glands which secrete enzymes that the Orion Syndicate can use to synthesize an extremely potent, and addictive, drug.
PC's can be brought in, either to help the Eska (with whom they may have already had contact), who, afterall, DO have perfectly legal hunting permits, but are being attacked/threatened by indigenous Axanar. Or, they could be called in by those among the Axanar who hope to end the hunt, despite the corrupt collaboration of the central government official who granted the permits. OR, the PC's may be contacted to help stop the Orion Syndicate from getting the glands required for their new syntthesized drug. They follow the trail of the Mazarite go between back to Axanar and learn of the hunt from local contacts.

THE MOST DANGEROUS PREY ON RISA: During a layover at the notorious pleasure planet, PC's happen upon a crisis caused by a serial killer stalking the tourists. Several murders have already been committed, for no apparent reason. The Risan authorities, while modestly competent, don't have the skills necessary to hunt the killer, who apparently can change shape to get close to his/her/its prey. A group of vacationing Eska hunters happily volunteer to hunt the murderer! (Bonus entertainment for the Eska!) Also watching the hunt are agents of the Tandaran intelligence corp. They suspect the murders may not be as random as they seem. Perhaps a Cabal Suliban agent wanted to kill a specific target, or targets, and killed some random tourists to cover the significance of the assassination. Perhaps the murders so far have been a smoke screen and the real target is coming up.
The real killer might well be Suliban. Or it might be a wild Wraith who was removed from its homeworld by an interstellar traveller who saw it as their ideal love interest and refused to let it go. The Wraith may have escaped and is now frightened and angry, trying to defend itself from the strange creatures around it. The assassin may be a Malurian disguise expert who is trying to assassinate a troublesome alien bureaucrat who is working to stop the Malurians' exploitation of one or another primitive species. Or, it might be one of those shape-changing aliens who have moved on from rolling tourists for their valuables to more exciting past times.

THE FASTEST GUN ON RIGEL: A Mazarite assassin, with Quick Draw and ungodly fast reflexs, has been hired to kill a Vulcan VIP on Rigel X. The Central Authority seems strangely uninterested in protecting the Vulcan, or finding the Assassin (someone's been paid off by the Orion Syndicate). The PC's are hired/recruited for the job of protecting the VIP and finding the gunman. Assisting them is a Tituah...soman interpreter/private investigator and perhaps a friendly Eska bounty hunter.

WOLF IN MENK'S CLOTHING: The PC's get word that Malurian agents have infiltrated the Valakian homeworld. They know that the Valakians are doomed to die out over the next couple of centuries and they are scouting the planet with an eye to looting the treasures they leave behind as well as exploiting its unguarded resources. The Menk, after all, even with their impending evolutionary leap forward, will still be far too primitive to resist the Malurians when they come in force. The PC's have to find and neutraliize the Malurian agents while avoiding being caught up in the Valakians' desperate efforts to save themselves. The Malurians are travelling under the guise of Menk menials, working in the Valakian cities. The investigation will be complicated by the fact that the Valakians have strict laws preventing harassment or detainment of Menks, as well as the fact that to Valakians, most Menk "look alike" and are rarely noticed in public places.

V FOR VALAKIA: Having been thwarted in their efforts to subtlely infiltrate Valakia (see above), the Malurians have decided to fall back on "Plan V". Malurian cruisers show up above several Valakian cities. The Malurians, in humanoid disguise, disembark and proclaim themselves the "saviors" that the Valakians have been looking for. They claim that they have heard of the Valakians' dire plight and have come to offer assistance. These "visitors" offer to study the Valakian plague and work toward a cure. They just need a few...little things in return from the Valakians. Like increasing control over Valakian government and scientific institutions. (C'mon. You've seen the show. You know how this plays out, right?) How can the PC's stop the Malurians? How do they convince the Valakians that the Malurians are NOT their friends, when the Malurians are offering cures and possibly even space travel while the PC's governments can offer little but sympathy and some symptom treating medications? Can anything short of a full fleet action drive the Malurians from the Valakian system?

OUR MAN ON CORIDAN: Vulcan sources confirm that agents of the Tandaran intelligence corps are active on Coridan. When confronted, the Tandarans admit that they are "observing" contacts between the Insurgents and the Cabal. Suliban are known to be active on the planet, and the Tandarans want to know why. During the investigation that follows, proof emerges that the Orion Syndicate has stepped up shipments of weapons to the Insurgents. Mazarite smugglers have been bringing in shiploads of high-tech weapons for the Orions. The Andorians, who have their own contacts among the Insurgents, know about the Mazarites, but not about the Orion connection. The Mazarites have convinced the Andorians that they too are upset over Vulcan "interference" in affairs on Coridan & Mazar and that they are supporting the Insurgents against the Vulcan-backed government in an effort to weaken Vulcan "control" over the sector. The Andorians are sympathetic to this message and they have been aiding the Mazarite smugglers.
All of this has been engineered by the Cabal. They are acting on Orders from the Future with an eye to changing crucial events concerning Coridan and its future role as a Federation member world.
Much cloak and dagger skullduggery, with Coridan government, Vulcan intelligence, Andorian advisors, Mazarite smugglers and Orion crime lords all involved, ends up with Vulcan and Tandaran ships facing down Mazarite and Andorian ships with Coridan interceptors from both sides buzzing the high altitudes. Meanwhile, Suliban cell-ships are hovering around a moon farther out in the Coridan system, trying to set off a chain reaction that will destroy the vast, as yet undiscovered, dilithium vein inside the moon. Will they be discovered before a six-way war breaks out in the skies of Coridan?

or maybe the killer is Redjak!! It'll be a pain in the bum for the Eska and whoever else is hunting the killer if they find the Host but Redjak has juped into another person......lot's of red herrings and gives it a spooky feel!

what do you think Bob? (or anyone else for that fact)

Hey! I LIKE it! If the Entity is indeed Redjak, then there might be some disappointment when it gets away (as it must for continuity), but that sets the players up for a spooky "IT is still...out THERE, somewhere!" ending that ought to keep them paranoid for sessions to come.
Or, you can assume that there is more than one emotivore like Redjak and this is one of its siblings, or offspring! Hey! Howzerbout, these things need to suck in large amounts of fear & hate to spawn. Redjak, like any other tourist worth the name, has come to Risa looking for a little "procreative action". That lets "daddy 'Jak" get away, but the PC's could still destroy its progeny. ("Son of Byratis" or "Redjak takes a Holiday")
Or it could just be another of the same type of Entity.
    "Strega...Dahlmer...Moraja!"

I'm already thinking of a horrible dark world somewhere, some sort of semi-Jovian protostar type world inbetween normal systems where these things may have originated, or at least where they've come to call "home" before setting off to feed among humanoids.
So. A dead black world in tight orbit of a non-luminous "Brown Dwarf". A twisted place with a breathable, but fetid atmosphere, where the howling winds are dank and carry a smell like that of spilled blood or rotting flesh. These "things" swarm among black ruins of a dead civilization, like angry fire-flies, looking for a ride or a gateway to a juicey humanoid feast-world.
    Hmm. I like it.

    Now I've got a three part mini-arc!

1.) Episode set on Risa where the PC's get involved in the hunt for a serial killer, who may not be what it seems.

    2) Episode two, in which the PC's track the killer's trail back to Rigel, involving that Tituah...soman Interpreter/Private investigator and an Eska bounty hunter. There they find a link back to a nameless world in the interstellar void.

3.)Episode three, "Planet of Horror" where the PC's go to investigate the lead and find a planet so vile, so horrible that it might well cost them their lives or ship, or inspire that General Order about laying waste to the whole surface of a planet. The results are sealed, for fear that someone might go digging in the ruins and wake something up.

    Redjak

just another snippet about Redjak........(The entity that was in the TOS episode, Wolf in the Fold ), It appeared in a Star Trek:TNG graphic ovel called "Hour of the Wolf" so I think the main entity is incredibly differcult to destroy if it survived to plague Data and co.....I think the story involves Data and Geordi taking up their Holmes and Watson roles to find out about the Redjak entity........Does anyone here have that Graphic Novel who can shed some light on the story, as I can't find it in any of the comic stores where I am (and I have two good suppliers!)

If you are wanting inspiration for sheer terror/paranoia/nausea then I recommend you watch John Carpenter's The Thing, or read the story the film is based on "Who Goes There?" which is on this website devoted to the movie..

    Enjoy

THE GREAT RIGEL FOOD-FIGHT: While the PC's are attending to other matters on Rigel X, hostilities of a strange and profoundly unusual sort break out. The Kreetassans sent a trade envoy to the planet and many Kreetassan crewmen came down for shore leave. They were briefed on the "barbaric" and "uncouth" behavior that they might witness and swore up and down that they would try not to be offended by the sickening ways of these offworlder deviates. Everything went just fine, despite some squirming and wincing by offended Kreetassans, until one of them just couldn't keep his mouth shut.
The Kreetassans were passing through a crowded food court and saw a group of Klingons eating writhing bowls of gagh. One of them blurted out, "Look! They mate with WORMS!" Unfortunately, the Klingons overheard the comment. One thing led to another and the Klingon threw a bowl of still squirming gagh at the Kreetassan. One of the things they don't tell you in the Species briefings is that Klingon food sometimes bites back. The steamed gagh spasms for some time after its demise, working its lampry like mouth. can be very hard on the lips or tongue, or nose, in this case.
Klingons and Kreetassans started brawling, everyone else pelted everyone else with assorted alien entres. The thing turned from a brawl to a minor war. Central Security is trying hard to contain the hostilities before they spill up to the ships in orbit. But they need help...
