Before all of our international friends recoil in horror, I'm pretty sure Fortunae was kidding.
"Do what we say or else." [US hegemony]
"Let the First World (including the US) determine world policy." [US as major policy maker]
"Let's all work together to determine world policy." [US as an equal partner]
"Let others determine world policy and we'll follow along." [US as a follower]
"Screw the rest of the world." [US as isolationist]
None of the above. [Explained in separate posting]

Ah, yes. Our biggest foreign policy error ever."America is a conundrum to the rest of the world. After WW2 She could have conquered the world....but didn't."

"I'd make a great President: My domestic policy? 'F**k you.' My foriegn policy? 'F***********K THEM!!'" - Denis Leary
My foreign policy, which is also my highway philosophy:
"Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way."

The U.S. is in a position of leadership. Sometimes a leader gets a consensus before acting. Not always. At times a leader has to make hard decisions on their own, and bear the consequences on their own.
So, all of the above, depending on circumstances. The only important consideration is that the U.S. try to represent her ideals in her dealings with the rest of the world.
To quote Aaron Tippin, " If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
