    Interpid design in Narrator's Guide

    Hello

I back on a trek track again. I am preparing a crew to take admirable ensign-positions on a Intrepid-class ship.

So I looked into starship construction and Intrepid-example in NG and found some interesting errors. So I tried to remake Intrepid from the scratch to see what's wrong.

First (and it was mentioned here on the forum) Type X Beam weapons would not be fitted into size 6 hull. But I can live with that. =)

Second. If I did my calculations correct the total space taken by all equipment was 94. Size 6 ship has only 77 space available.
On the otherhand if Intrepid is assigned as size 7 ship then the calculations match. But size 7 is for ships over 400 meters long.

So I am just a bit curious - where is the bug? Is the size given in NG a wrong one or what happened?

Just to check: Intrepid's shields cost 12 space per packet. And to get ratio 17/4 shields must be bought twice. But becouse of some thing (explorer ships or starfleet or something) space cost was reduced by 2. So Intrepid's shield cost 30 space total to get to ration 17/4, right?

But yes, I can live with NG Intrepid. I just say that the Feds make things better - size 7 equipment in size 6 ship. ;)

First things, first. Remember that a light cruiser gets discounts on warp drives and photon torpedoes.

Second, shields cost the base cost for the basic threshold, and only 1 pt. per additional threshold, so it would cost only 14 points for a 17/4 rating.

I believe that the Intrepid (and most of the TNG ships) are 2 points over...we think they got a couple of minor items for free (an extra allotment of transporters and an extra tractor beam). Otherwise, the numbers work out properly.

    Isn't Intrepid a Light Explorer?

So it does not get a discount on them but on the shields.
(Or so I figured, I could be wrong though =) )

As for the shields. Are you certain of that? :-O Of course you are, since you said so.. That text in the book is a bit confusing.

Ok, with that shield expense I get 94-30+12 -> 76 which would fit into Size 6 ship nicely.

    I came up with 77.

My buddy made a great spreadsheet. Excel is so cool.

Nope, you're right, she is a light explorer. I wasn't looking at the book when I wrote that...so, you would get discounts on warp drives and shields (not torpedoes), meaning Class 6 17/4 shields will cost you 12 space (instead of 14). The warp drive will cost one point less than the listed price in the book.
