Post My Sourcebook has just hit shelves!

Well, I have completed about half of my Qenfani project. This is the first draft so bear with grammar and spelling! Still want to finish some neat little aspects like Laws and the holy Scripture. But here is most of the text. I say most and not all because some still needs to be written. Please leave comments, good or bad, would you download it or not and why!
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Introduction:

The Qenfani are a custom-built race that I thought up while lying on my couch thinking about a mission idea. This mission idea turned into a whole series concept. The Birth of Star trek: Eclipse came from this idea. As I write this though I am, young and a dedicated fan of the Star trek Universe. I also am a fan of role-playing games, especially Decipher’s new Star Trek RPG, CODA. The Qenfani were made for this game and all stats below have been done in CODA using the Narrator’s Guide. I appreciate the time you are taking to read this and I sincerely hope that you will be able to use this for something useful instead of just throwing it away. I will begin by introducing you to the Qenfani in general and then move on into their planet, systems, ships, and technology. Here is a quick guide to what you will be seeing in this book.
The Qenfani are a group of humanoid life forms that occupy the Quano system, specifically Quano Prime. The Second planet in the system, Quano II, does not have any lifeforms on it although it is Class-M. The Quano system is on the border of the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants. The Qenfani are not so different from the humans that inhabit the Sol System, Sector 001.
They are a people of peace, love, and spirituality. Spirituality takes precedence over all else. They feel that they must uphold the laws put forth by their god, Zena. They also must destroy what they can of anything created by Xefran, or the devil.
Zena wrote scriptures that are now considered holy by the Qenfani people and they live their lives trying to uphold the moral standards by which she set forth. The Qenfani are also a technologically advanced culture with weapons, sensors, and ships. They have roughly the same technology level as the Federation in the year 2378. The Qenfani are not part of a greater government unlike Earth and Vulcan. They do not have slavery in any form. Everyone that works, with the exception being the Religious life, is paid to do his or her work.
The Qenfani have two sexes, male and female. They have the same basic organs as the male and female humans. They also have the same roles in child rearing, the mother gives birth, and each is needed for conception.
The Qenfani live in a system called Quano, they inhabit a nice planet that is the closest to the sun. It is called Quano Prime by outsiders, from the Qenfani though it is referred to as Qeni. This is just as Sol III is also known as Earth. The sector of space that the Quano system is located in is sparse. The sector contains about seven star systems. They are: Quano, Wegga, Farren, Sharnok, Kanrou, Magroki, and Shivan. Little is known about these systems as of yet, that is for another time and place. The Qenfani are explorers just as the humans are. Please note that this race is balanced for player characters!

    Chapter One: Culture

The Qenfani are a nice people for the most part. As with most civilizations they do have people that are questionable. They also possess religious extremists and terrorists. Unfortunately these are the downsides to almost any culture except those the go through genetic resequencing of genetic cleansing. The Qenfani are a deeply religious people that place religious beliefs above all else. Their god, Zena, wrote spiritual texts that the Qenfani base all of their laws and actions on.
The Qenfani are a personable people that have many friends spanning many species. Most, although there are exceptions, Qenfani have quite a few friends. Each family has gathering for all of the major occasions in one’s life, such as Birthdays, Weddings, Funerals, Coming of Age, Religious Conversion, election, and acceptance into the Religious Life. Being social really helps them make first contact with alien species. They tend to make more alien friends that are allies because of this.
The Qenfani control certain emotions like the Vulcans, although not to the Vulcan extreme. The only emotion that the Qenfani find can hurt is anger and jealously. These emotions are kept in check by the broad consensus. They are not a warring culture either but have been involved in two interstellar wars, one of which was a war against a devilish culture. The other war was against the Interstellar Empire, which the Qenfani won.
The Qenfani do have a social structure. They consider all laymen to be one class and all in the Religious life to be a higher social class. The clerics study to learn about Zena as best they can. The working class work and explore the universe. They want to incorporate others into being friendly and have trading agreements. First Contact is the second goal in the Qenfani ideals. Their first is religion, and third is Exploration.
Each Qenfani are very different but each shares the same basic belief structure on how they approach life and social situations. Rarely would anyone see an introvert or reclusive Qenfani.
The Qenfani believe in schools for everyone and hold no one back from any school. The top highest educational college is Frean. The military academy is called Imperium, and the Religious school is called Venti. All of the schools are open to everyone. It depends on what life that you want to lead.
The smallest currency is a Jeda. It is equal to a slip of latinum. The Hefa is equal to one strip of latinum and the Jedfas is equal to a bar of latinum.
The military defense force/exploration force is called the Imperial Defense and Exploration Force. The Religious council is called the Venti’Shal. The governing council is called the Great Shanti. The Venti’shal determines whether things are devilish or holy. They have final say on all laws. The Great Shanti is the governing council. It has four seats. Three of which are from the Venti’shal. The other one seat is an elected official. This official, the Chancuy, is elected by the people of Qeni. This elected official represents all of the people of Qeni.
The Qenfani government also has one more group of people. They are the Shin’anti. They are the ambassadors of the Qenfani race. There is one on all ships that are stationed for exploration. They are not on any defense ships.

    Chapter 2: Physiology

The Physiology of the Qenfani is somewhat similar to the human systems. The Qenfani males all range from 6’0” to 7’0” and weigh between 150-200 pounds respectively. Most Qenfani keep themselves in respectable shape. The Females of the species also keep themselves in reasonable shape and range between 5’0” and 6’0”. They weigh around 100-150 Pounds respectively. Their skin is toned slightly toward the greenish-blue side but is hardly noticeable. The most distinguishing mark on their bodies is the wrinkled cheeks. They have three small, tight wrinkles in each cheek on their face. They look similar to the wrinkles that Bajoran have on their noses. They are not telepathic in anyway whatsoever.
The Qenfani evolved from an indigenous species called the Ferna. The Ferna is a mammalian monkey. They are quite large. Ranging from 9’0” –12’0” in the wild. The Qenfani have gotten smaller and it seems that they are wanting to get taller and taller through the generations. All Qenfani are allergic to anesthezyne. Not only will they fall unconscious, but will start having seizures when subjected to their gas.

    Chapter 3: Language and Law

The Language of the Qenfani culture is called Qenta. It is easy for an outsider to learn. It is very basic and has a total of 26 characters like the English alphabet.
The laws must be upheld. They are not too terribly complicated. Things such as do not worship the devil and do not kill are at the top of the list. These are all punishable with a life long term in prison. The Qenfani do not believe in corporal punishment (The laws will be detailed much further on the following page.)
The Foreign policy for the Qenfani is very simplistic. They believe that any and every alien species should be given a chance to be allies, unless the use some form of devilish technology (More Detail in chapter 4, Religion). The Governmental structure of the Qenfani is a cross between a democracy and theocracy. Three fourths of the Great Shanti is theocratic and one fourth is democratic. The lone representative is the representative of the people. The other three are representatives of Zena. The Chancellor of Law governs the law; it is similar to a constitution. It is listed below in full detail. These are not the General orders of the Defense Force.

    Chapter 4: Religion

The Religion of the Qenfani people is absolute. They are to follow the laws of the Qenfani Imperium and they are to worship Zena. Zena wrote Holy Scriptures that was guidelines of the current laws. They are also the basis or current morality and views upon other races. The Qenfani though believe that any race that practices the works of the devil must be destroyed or convinced to change technology. It is hard to decipher what is devilish and what is right. That is the main reason that the Qenfani have so many studiers of the scrolls. They do not want to attack some culture for an arbitrary reason. It must be deemed devilish by the Venti’Shal for the Imperial Defense force to attack.
The downside to this level of religious belief is religious extremists. They are people who will not wait for the Venti’shal and will act on their own. These people are terrorists and there are several groups that are well known and wanted by the Qenfani government for terrorizing innocent people that do not worship the devil. The punishment for attacking a race without the approval of the Venti’Shal is life imprisonment with study of the Holy Scriptures.
On Quano Prime, each member of the Qenfani race visits several holy places once in his or her life. They include the Shafafoga, or the place of the dead. Shera or the place of life. Haeren or the place of wedlock, and the Jefka, or the place of worship. The Shafafoga is where Zena was buried when her natural life ended. People go here to worship the fact they will meet her in Ferka (Heaven). The Shera is the place where Zena was believed to be born. The people that can make it there try to before their children are born. There is a large hospital located beside it because many pregnant women go here to deliver their babies where their beloved God was born. This will bring good fortune upon the unborn child. Haeren is the place where marriage happens. It is the only place on the planet that serves in this capacity. All young couples must go here to be married and to start the journey to having children. Jefka is the main worshiping temple on Quano Prime. It is located in the capital city of Shintina. This was built for Zena. Many others were built as well but all of the Religious council members live here as well as holding meetings. It is the most sacred place on all of Qeni.

    Chapter 5: Racial Stats

    Species Name: Qenfani

Personality: A typical Qenfani has a lot of control over his anger emotion. They tend to have a very long fuse. They also have excellent diplomatic skills to any species during first contact. The Qenfani are socially oriented and tend to make friends very quickly because of their charm. Some Qenfani do not know how to control their anger and thus are arrested.

Physical Description: The Qenfani is average height and weight by human standards. Typical males are 6'0" to 7'0" and weigh about 150 - 275 pounds. The females are between 5'0" and 6'0" and weigh about 89-150 pounds. The distinguishing marks of the Qenfani are their marks on their cheeks. The marks resemble small wrinkles on their cheeks resembling the Bajoran nose, accept on their cheeks.

Home world: The home world of the Qenfani is called Quano Prime. It is a warm planet that has a ring system around it.

Culture: The Qenfani is a deeply rooted species in religious beliefs. There are some things that set them off that are considered work of the devil. This varies from person to person but they believe that all evil things should be terminated. Some examples are artificial Quantum Singularities, Species that are anything but bi-pedal, and species that have incorporated technology into their own bodies, i.e. the BORG. The Qenfani are not a violent race but a defensive one that has the capabilities of war. They have strong warship and explorers.

    Language: Qenfani, Interstellar

Common Names: The Qenfani use only a given name.

Male Names: Zellan, Xacis, Xerran, Zircony

Female Names: Zella, Heda, Yearna, Zircona

Favored Profession: Any starship officer. Also a prophet.

    Species Adjustments: +1 Presence

    Species Abilities:

Zena- Zena is the God of the Qenfani and is worshiped as such. Worshiped as the creator of all the universe.

Zunfax- the Qenfani study hard, long at their universities, and get +4 skill picks.

Notes: The Venti'Shal is the religious council of the Qenfani. They rule whether things are Pure or Devilish. They are not the supreme rulers of the land although they seat three of the four council seats in the Great Shanti. The members are not elected but are chosen by the wisdom of the person about the Holy Scriptures.

The Great Shanti is the Ruling Council of the Qenfani. It is composed of four members. Three come from the Venti'Shal and one comes from the elected members of the people. The leader is the Shanfar or president. He is advised by the Great Shanti.

    Chapter 6: Technology

The Qenfani’s technology is not too shabby. They have the same relative technological level as the Federation and it is major allies. It chooses to use Disruptors over phasers for their weapon systems. On their ships, they use Disruptor blast instead of phasers and they use Photon torpedoes as a missile weapon. Several matter-antimatter reactors power the super-luminal drive systems. It is the same technology as the Federation uses except instead of one reactor they have on average from two to four. These also power the sub-luminal engines such as the impulse engines. Usually but now always, one reactor can be channeled just to the ships normal operations or weapons.
The Qenfani no longer use projectile weapons. Sub-species that are located in the mountains on Qeni are back into the Stone Age. They do still use projectile weapons and have discovered the wheel! The Qenfani do have the technology for a controlled weather but opt not to use it because it is not right to only have it easy and to never have a drought or flood. “These hardships were made to keep us in check. We cannot feel that we are all-powerful like Zena herself.” –Zellan, Qenfani ambassador. They do believe that on starships it is okay to control the climate.
The Qenfani do have replicator technology but try not to use it except when a long way from home when certain death is immanent, or when they are on a starship and it is just not practical to carry a large amount of food.
The Qenfani do have hand-held weapons and scanners. They also have walkie-talkies, better known as communicators that are on their wrist. The scanners are similar to tricorders. There are three different types of scanners. Medical, Engineering, and Science. These scanners are called Gerges. Gerges means scanner in the Qenfani language.
The handheld disruptors come in three types. Size 1 is as small as the tip of a finger. They can be mounted onto the skin and easily hidden from view until the Qenfani need to use them. The second size, the most common, is a pistol. The third size is a rifle that is meant for long or short range firing. It is deadly accurate at ranges up to 1000 meters. The Qenfani believe in sniping instead of Guerrilla warfare. More on the stats of all of these in the Stats section)
The Qenfani have researched the principles of wormholes quite extensively and have just recently, as of 2379, opened a wormhole near the neutral zone in the Delvan system. It is the first wormhole that they have been able to open and keep stable for more than a few seconds. It is very similar to the Borg technology that is currently being used. It is believed that the Borg used the Qenfani knowledge to help perfect its Transwarp Gateways. The Borg designation is species 9658.

The Quano System is the system in which the Qenfani occupy. The only live on the first planet of the system and not the second. They believe that they should not take up more space than is necessary.
The Quano System has two planets, two moons, one stellar phenomena, and no comets. The two moons both orbit the second planet. The First planet is inhabited with the Qenfani, and has no moons.
The Stellar Phenomena is similar to the Briar Patch and cannot sustain planets or suns because of the volatility between the gases. Warp Flight I also impossible. This is called the Shinti’Vanogden. (Narrators Note: There is an old abandoned Star base that is in the phenomena. It was not there originally but was orbiting the second planet. Someone towed the base where no one could find it. You can make up the story. In my campaign though, we are using it as a new base of operations run by the crew that is totally self-sufficient. It makes a nice trading hub as well)
The Both planets are class M, and canI have included a map for easy reference whenever you need to find where you are going!

I haven't had time to read much of it, but what I did looks very detailed. Goopd job.

Don't pull it, you only just posted it. Give us time to read and digest properly.

Finally had time to read it

    Hey Matt,

Nice notes. On the whole I like it and hope to see the detailed version soon!

I'd have a few remarks... I hope they help

    - I would encourage you to get some distance from the established Trek archetypes or, more important, from our own earthly archetypes. For instance, why having made their alphabet 26 letters "like in English"? This sounds too much like "oh, it's like at home" (and moreover, boom, no sense of wonder ). Why not make it 28 letters plus 2 accents for example? Not much more difficult to learn And why disruptors? Each time I see a civilization in Trek using phasers or disruptors I feel, "not again"... There's no reason to believe every civilization in the galaxy has only found two modern weapons, disruptors and phasers... Call it something else, male a different visual effect while retaining the rules, and the players will think: "Hey, this is something new!"

    - I like the Qenfani PC workup, but I miss a "funky" ability, something out of the ordinary.

    - Something that seems contradictory IMO: the Qenfani do not want to build a vast interstellar civilization, believing they shouldn't use too much space, then why will they want to fight "devilish" civilization? Why do they call themselves "Imperium"? This surely calls for expansionism...

    - One last point: they all seem too perfect for the moment. I miss more "downsides", weak points that could be exploited to build stories. We have for the moment, Vulcan control without the downsides, Bajoran mysticism without the occupation, Terran technology without the boldness... All this is too perfect IMO If these people are so perfect, why should my players get interested in them?

Some food for thought... Just take what you want

Anyway it's still a great job overall.

I am working on things now but cannot find a suitable flaw as of yet. There biggest Flaw is definitely the fact they will kill to banish the Devil from the known universe. The flaw is they give almost no one a chance to prove they are not devils.

Maybe create a flaw "Religious Intolerance". Automatically intolerant of those who do not share their beliefs. Just throwing out ideas.

By the way, good work on the source book.

This flaw would be nice indeed - it just seems contradictory IMO with the "no-expansion" idea

    Don't I feel stupid?

okay, I was looking at the Qenfani race and thinking of a flaw and wondering why no one else saw that their flaw is the Religion thing. Too bad I am not smart enough to list it as a flaw

KW, they have new weapons, the expansionism thing I will explain later because I ran out of time.

As far as the expansionism goes....

They do not setup colonies officially. Some civilians do though. Also Imperium is a rough translation!
