    Favorite Roleplaying Ships?

After my thread on favorite starships, someone posted about a roleplaying ship.

So, what is your favorite rolplaying starship?

Erm, if I understand your question correctly, you're asking which is your favorite ship to base a campaign on?

Mine would be the Galaxy-class. It's big, it's roomy, and I've got the published deckplans and Tech Manual for it. Hard to go wrong with that kind of resource material.

I do like other ships, though, and if I had any skill at deckplans, I'm sure I'd have a different fave.

I'm with Ineti, here, for the same reasons, plus everyone knowns what the TNG set look like. Next favorite for TNG is the Akira, cause there's not a lot on it & I can do what I want.

Constitution refit in a movie period, for the same reasons as stated for the Galaxy in TNG.

I have always had a special place in my heart for the steadfast Miranda-class, if only because it precisely resembles a starship I designed for a Starfleet Battle Manual campaign which ran almost a year before Wrath of Khan debuted. When Reliant first appeared on screen, the friends with whom I had attended the film excitedly whispered to me, "That's your ship!"

I also like the Ambassador- and Nova-class starships a lot. Hell, I like them all... extremely wifty starships are a Trek hallmark.

True...Dr. Armaggeddon loves the Miranda, too.

    I like the Miranda class

Not as fancy as Constellation/Constitution, not as modern as the Galaxy, lots of room for the "under officers" to actually have a hand in things.

    Good all around

I must admit I've used Excelsior's on numerous occasions. Only because we were building up to bigger ships

Still, Excelsior can be quite good in the right situation.

We used a Nebula (not so terrific), an Ambassador (yay!!!) and a Galaxy (yay as well - but without exclamation marks ).

    Now we're using a home-brewed experimental class (Ascendant-class).

My crew like smaller ships like Intrepid-class ships. It let's them get more involved in missions (they are Lt's).

Nova would be my ship of choice. What I like about her is the small crew complement. Players on a ship like that have a chance to really get to know all the NPCs on board, instead of constantly bumping into "faceless crew member #X" any time they turn a corner.
That the Nova would be the perfect ship for my character to command (science officer turned command officer) may have some influence as well.

But, as I arrived at this marvelous conclusion when our game was well underway, we are now on an Akira which I choose simply because I liked the looks of her.

I was going to post one in the format of AslanC's but they came out being exactly alike.

For the movies I like the Connie although I don't know much about TOS. I Have watched all the movies though so would say the Connie Refit here.

For the Pre-Tng period I like the Ambassador and the Oberth. The Oberth has a nice small crew complement and ship. Allowing for the players to meet some reocurring NPC's

TNG period is a hard one to pick. They are all so pwetty..., and shiny...and pwetty I would say that the Galaxy would not be on my list of favorites although I would not mind playing on it. I like the Defiant class because of the getting to know everyone onboard type thing. Admittingly it is over-armed for my taste. The Intrepid and Nova are fun to roleplay on. As long as my players don't blow my Intrepid up Alas, it could happen.

Mostly custom designed ships in here ...

Currently we have the Avatar class Fast Frigate (no relations to Avatar books).

    The design features:

USS Avatar (and later known as USS Timeless, the version from the future)
    USS Courageous (check the signature)
    USS Knight (in construction)

We are talking Intelligence Naval division vessels, about 250 meters long, 7 decks, crew of 80, permanent RRT squadron (10+1) attached. Also a senior SI officer (Major or Colonel assigned to assist the Naval Captain and take care of intelligence review and gathering).

The ship shape is similar to that of the Defiant Class (and jokingly called as Defiant Mk2 by those from Starfleet unfamiliar with the true design and purpouse).

Now the ships are quite good, but not THAT good, as they are designed for advanced escort, recon, intelligence data gathering and observation... after all what is the fun with starting the campaign onboard Sovereign? Its better to earn such command through ones actions

Also I have adopted the designs of Waverider (that I have found on these forums) to use as a deep space intelligence vessel or troop dropship. Normally the Avatar class comes equipped with two of those (as entire 7th deck is a hangar bay)

Saying that the Waveriders come with advanced stealth technology, while the Avatar class comes equipped with cloacking device ... yes the relationship between Romulans and Federation went from bad ... to worst after the war and SI needed the tech desperatly.

Of course the ships do not come with bumper stickers that say 'Hi ... I have a cloacking device' and SI has a way of keeping things hush hush...

    Kind Regards
    Daniel

I guess that depends on what setting you have and the atmosphere you like.

TNG-style: denfinitely the Galaxy. Its just poor atmosphere. Everybody knows the show and you hardly have to explain anything when describing the ship. It is well known enough.

Movie-Era: Connie refit. It just looks beautiful. It is far more militaristic than Galaxy but has therefore a more 'pioneer' style I like very much. Additionally it is as well known as the Galaxy.

Voyager: In my Voyager Campaign I took a Steamrunner Class. It is great. It has about the same size as Voyager and I did some maps of the major locations ( bridge, quarters, engineering, transporter room, sickbay and mess hall ) and so my players were able to imagine a bit about the ship. Simply love it - was the best campaign I ever played.

DS9 - DW: I used a Okinawa-Class ship, known from Stafleet Command. It is small and old but still was a great deal. It was comparable to Defiant concerning size and the like, but was not as capable. Made real fun.
