    Post Campaign Questionnaire for players

Here's a little questionnaire I use for my players when I started our campaign

    Star Trek Roleplaying Game Survey
    Name:

    1) How much role playing experience do you have?
    ___ What's a role playing game
___ I've played once or twice (computer RPGs don't count)
___ I've played computer RPGs before (Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Doom (or a variant of it)
___ I know where the closest role playing game store is
___ I'm the RPG stores most valuable customer!

    2) How much do you know about the Star Trek universe?
___ That's the movies where they say, "May the Force be with you," right?
___ I know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek (please talk to the moron above)
___ I've seen a few episodes, but I'm not real involved.
___ I like the show, but I'm not a Trekkie.
    ___ I'M NOT A TREKKIE!! I'M A TREKKER!

    3) What Star Trek time would you prefer to run in? (rank top two picks)
___ 2365 Federation has no serious problems except concerns about the Romulan Neutral Zone (TNG Season 2)
___ 2367 Federation has just lost 39 ships in Battle of Wolf 359. The Klingon Civil War is brewing (TNG Season 4)
___ 2369 Wormhole has just been found, Cardassians are neutral and Maquis are a problem. Dominion is just a rumor (TNG Season 5, DS9 Season 1)
___ 2372 Relations with Cardassua improve as Klingons invade Cardassian space. Khittmor Accords broken (DS9 Season 3, Voyager Season 2)
___ 2373 Dominion War begins with fleet coming through Wormhole (First Contact, DS9 Season 4, VOY Season 3)
___ 2376 Dominion War is over. Romulans have a foothold in Federation space (Benzite, I believe), Cardassia is in shambles and Bajor is about to join the Federation (one year after Insurrection, after end of DS9)

    4) If playing in an earlier time, how much would you like 'future history' followed? ___ Scale of 1-10 1=Its not written yet, so we can rewrite it. and 10=Violate the written canon of Star Trek? How dare you!

    5) What type of setting would you prefer?
___ Fixed: The same sector in almost every game, setting is well established and solid non ship relationships with NPC (characters who are not played by players) possible
___ Mobile: Ship moves from sector to sector. Lots of variety, but no real establishment

    6) How much combat would you like to have? ___ Scale of 1-10. 1= What's a phaser? and 10= DAMN! I need more ammo.

    7) How much intrigue would you like to have? ___ Scale of 1-10. 1=straight forward plot and 10=Another plot twist, I'm confused!

    8) How much puzzle solving would you like to have? ___ Scale of 1-10. 1=none at all, 5=like the average computer RPG, 10=confuse me with puzzles!

    9) How much would you like your character to be in the spotlight? (Note: Everyone will have a chance at the spolight. Knowing how much you want to be in it will provide a better RPG experience for you)
___ Scale 1-10. 1=I want to be a ship extra! 3=Data's level 6=Worf's episode level 10=Kirk (I HAVE to BE in THE spotLIGHT!)

    10) How big a ship would you like?
___ small (crew of less than 100): Players will probably be department heads and will not have a lot of help
___ large (crew over 500): crew will NOT be department heads, but they will have help
___ medium: some players will be department heads and help may be available

Hmm, that's looks like a good, basic survey Alex. Here's the survey I used with my group of players which I've been gaming with for over a decade...

    Star Trek Campaign Survey
Survey conducted at the end of season 1.
    <HR>
    Part I: Campaign Direction
This is a short survey for Kevin's Star Trek Campaign. Your answers will be posted on a secret web site for the occassional viewer to stumble upon and be beguiled. Don't worry about your answers too much, although I hear
the Narrator can be quite vindictive. For those of you who want to use a rating not present (*cough*Rowe!*cough*) I will assume you meant the next higher rating.

Q1. How important do you want your character to be in the campaign? Note that I use this to determine how much focus to give your character in an episode.
    100. I'm number 1! Look out Kirk! Watch out Picard! Here comes the newest Starfleet Legend!
    080. Either I'm the luckiest Officer in Starfleet or I'm paying for the Narrator's new house. Alternatively, I'm the well-endowed new character who wears slinky outfits; introduced to raise flagging tv ratings.
    060. I'm an up-and-coming officer, capable of commanding the occassional mission or having an episode focused on me. Sort of like Chekov without the fake Ruskie accent.
    040. I have my useful skills, but clearly I'm not leadership material. I could be any one of the dozens of guest characters that's only seen once. Alternatively, I'm the occassional comic relief hypochondriac whose only other significant role was opposite Mr T.
    020. Transporter Chief Kyle from the Original Series is my hero!
    000. Hey man, I just come here for the free food and to sleep. I didn't ask for a character.

Q2. How often do you want your character's subplots to be in the campaign? These would be enemies, rivals, family, romances, hobbies, etc. Note that these things are analogous to the B plots in a Star Trek episode.
    100. Dammit! My character *IS* the campaign!
    080. Everybody knows I have the most interesting character. They all wish they could be me.
    060. If I don't have a subplot every other adventure I'll wither and die, or I'll join Donald and play solitaire.
    040. I have a character that I really like and want just a few more subplots to flesh him/her out better.
    020. The general average that the Narrator is trying to establish for the group. About one subplot per episode for the group.
    000. I stay in my cabin with the lights out unless required for my duties.

Q3. Where do you see your character being three years (18 episodes) from now? This is in terms of his/her Starfleet career.
    100. Please address me by my proper rank: Admiral.
    080. I'm a shooting star! I should be Lieutenant Commander by then!
    060. Certainly I should have been promoted at least once by then.
    040. Not on the promotion list again?!? If I wasn't so cheerful I'd probably go Postal.
    020. Is it possible to be demoted back to Cadet?
    000. New Zealand Penal Colony keeping company with Tom Paris.

Q4. How much action do you want to see in the typical episode, or in general throughout any given season?
    100. Bring it on baby! *Pow* You want some of this? *Zap* How about you? *Bang* Eat phaser slimeball! *Poof*
    080. Every episode should be solvable by the maximum application of force.
    060. About the current level. About one fight per episode on the average.
    040. About the level of the Next Generation tv show. There are other ways to challenge the characters besides violence.
    020. Every episode should be solvable without doing or taking damage.
    000. I'm afraid of getting hurt. Please don't hit me.

Q5. My biggest complaint about the GM is...
    100. What?!?! I can only pick one?
    080. It has to be the way he railroads the adventure. If the characters don't get it exactly right they might as well slit their wrists because they're already dead. (The Doug Syndrome).
    060. He doesn't seem to know the rules. He's constantly looking up rules or making it up as he goes. Especially annoying when he changes the same rule week after week. (The Wong Conundrum).
    040. He doesn't familiarize himself with the adventure. It's like he's only reading the text for the first time so he's constantly surprised and misses key facts. (The Tomasetti Effect).
    020. Dammit, my character **froze on his horse**! What kind of GM does that?
    000. Nice try Kev, but we all know that revenge is a dish best served with a creamy cucumber sauce. I'm not giving you any ammo.

    Comments: [Space Provided]

    Part II: Character Personality
Assume that your character is answering the following questions.

Q6. My fellow away team members...
    100. Are just so much dead weight dragging me down.
    080. Are best useful when drawing incoming phaser fire away from me.
    060. Don't appreciate my abilities and my brilliant and innovative solutions.
    040. Have skills that complement mine. Which is good since I don't want to learn those boring skills.
    020. Are quite considerate in giving me some small scraps of work to do. If only I didn't let them down so often.
    000. Are my lifeline to the rational universe. Without them I'd be a lost particle in the vast macrocosm of reality.

    Q7. My leadership ability...
    100. Is unquestioningly better than that of telepathy girl, the pacifist dandy, or the pretty boy human.
    080. Was good enough for us to accomplish that last mission where I was in charge. Isn't that proof enough?
    060. Is not that bad. I only lost a couple of redshirts in the last mission. Any successful mission where I survive is a good mission in my book.
    040. Not especially outstanding. Obviously if the Captain puts me in charge she has a good reason, but I can't fathom why when there are other more qualified personnel.
    020. Is decidedly below average. I quake whenever I'm put in charge of a mission.
    000. Is nonexistent. Nobody listens to me and I don't try to influence anybody. Woe is me, for I am unloved.

    Q8. Non-violent solutions to a problem...
    100. Are invariable less optimal than using my personal phaser.
    080. Are rather boring, don't you think?
    060. Are an awful lot of work. But that's what we're paid to do.
    040. Generally produce less destructive and more lasting effects than what the slathering dogs in Starfleet Security would do.
    020. Is one of the ideals that the Federation and Starfleet enshrine and adhere to religiously. Whether I agree or not, I know which side my bread is buttered on.
    000. Are the best way to advance in Starfleet. The pacifist pigs.

    Q9. Telepaths...
    100. Must be exterminated as an affront to nature and all that is Good.
    080. Are too dangerous to trust implicitly. Power corrupts.
    060. Are people too. Except for the mind reading part.
    040. Are ok with me. I'm confident that they won't abuse their powers.
    020. Are so Cool! I wish I was telepathic.
    000. Should rule the Federation because they are the best qualified to rule. Now, would you get out of my mind please?

    Q10. Romulans...
    100. Will always be a danger to Galactic Peace. The sooner they are wiped out the better. That goes for all the pointy-eared races.
    080. Are the kind of race that your mother warned you about.
    060. Are just another threat race that I have to overcome in my missions.
    040. May some day be persuaded to join the Federation and Klingons in a peaceful alliance.
    020. Are in many ways closer to us than our erstwhile Klingon allies.
    000. Have all the cool Vulcan traits and none of the disadvantages.

Not a problem, Jahn. I've gone in and reformatted it in a manner more suited to the Discussion Boards.

I really don't think Alex was intending for everyone to answer the questionnaire, but was posting it as an example of a tool for other Game Masters/Narrators.

On the other tentacle, if you're going to answer the thing, PLEASE don't quote the whole thing in its entirety. (You'll note I edited you, too!)

I put up the questionnaire for others to use and to see what others use. Although, I like to see the questionnaire being filled out. I like to see people's opinions.

Isn't it interesting how much people hate have canon rewritten? The final statement I'll make about canon is I'm fine with everything being left as it is... or changing it to suit the needs of the campaign. However, since Endgame (which I haven't seen, but I never liked Voyager much anyways) seems to have screwed up everything, as far as my campaigns in the future are concerned... Voyager never occured.

    Thumbs up

    Chello!

Most excellent. I plan on handing it out since I'm in the process of setting a new STNG campaign with a whole new group of players.

I think you've hit all the major areas of concern that I usually have as a GM.

    Thanks.

_X_ 2376 Dominion War is over. Romulans have a foothold in Federation space (Benzite, I believe), Cardassia is in shambles and Bajor is about to join the Federation (one year after Insurrection, after end of DS9)

    4) If playing in an earlier time, how much would you like 'future history' followed? _1_ Scale of 1-10 1=Its not written yet, so we can rewrite it. and 10=Violate the written canon of Star Trek? How dare you!

    5) What type of setting would you prefer?
_X_ Mobile: Ship moves from sector to sector. Lots of variety, but no real establishment

    6) How much combat would you like to have? _5_ Scale of 1-10. 1= What's a phaser? and 10= DAMN! I need more ammo.

    7) How much intrigue would you like to have? _5_ Scale of 1-10. 1=straight forward plot and 10=Another plot twist, I'm confused!

    8) How much puzzle solving would you like to have? _2_ Scale of 1-10. 1=none at all, 5=like the average computer RPG, 10=confuse me with puzzles!

    9) How much would you like your character to be in the spotlight? (Note: Everyone will have a chance at the spolight. Knowing how much you want to be in it will provide a better RPG experience for you)
_6_ Scale 1-10. 1=I want to be a ship extra! 3=Data's level 6=Worf's episode level 10=Kirk (I HAVE to BE in THE spotLIGHT!)

    10) How big a ship would you like?
_X_ small (crew of less than 100): Players will probably be department heads and will not have a lot of help
