I believe the carrier Nimitz has a captain as her exec.

Which just might be part of the reason that I specified my comments about Admirals not commanding ships as being about the US Navy.

    Ya think?

Might be, but after all we are talking about Star Trek and I only wanted to show that it is not impossible to have Admirals as simple COs/ XOs of large ships.

And after all I missed the note: US Navy only

    Unhappy

Sorry. My hackles were up and I overreacted.

Truly, even shortly after I posted it I realized it seemed more hostile than I felt.

Pretend there's a smiley after the "Ya think?". Preferably a winking one. (I'm not into revisionist history, so I'm not going to change it. I made a mistake.)

OK, hust wanted to make my point and share my experiences.

If I sounded angry or so, the reason is probably that I am no native-speaker and so am not that eloquent

    Cool

Evan, you did fine. It was _I_ who gave offense.

Now, let's all quit apologizing before it becomes silly.

In the navy, it is fairly common for the c/os of smaller frigates and destroyers to be Comamnders. They are usually referred to as "skipper" instead of captain as rule of thumb.
