    Question Ferengi Energy Whip

Has anyone ever written up stats for the Ferengi Energy Whip. This is the "bull whip" from the episode which introduced the Ferengi.

Here is what we are considering (if we have to make up our own stats): suggestions are very welcome!

Settings : 3, 6, 10 (heavy stun, light disrupt, heavy disrupt)
    Range : 5/9/22/45
    Size : 53 cm long
    Mass : 0.4 kg
    Energy : 80 charges

The settings are based on the assumption that this device is more closely related to a phaser than a disruptor, and therefore we used the phaser damage table on p. 234 of the Core Book.

So. . .we ask: Is this device more closely related to a phaser or a disruptor? Also we have not seen these very much. Are they still in use, or is something else being used?

I had been thinking about this for a while, but never had a need to do any more thjan think, and add the skills Energy Weapon (Ferengi Energy Whip) and Melee (Ferengi Energy Whip).

The way I see it, the weapon is both close range (up to 2m) and ranged... As you indicate, not terribly long range (thus explaining why Ferengi Phasers also exist)...

I would also consider that the Energy Whip should be quite difficult to use... Deliberatly so to ensure that it is a skilled user weapon and cannot be used effectively by the untrained (imagine trying to ain the end tip of a real whip, doable, but a skill in itself), now against the preference of a point and shoot of the Phaser... Maybe double the difficulty of the Phaser usage...

Meanwhile Melee uses are easier, but run the risk that a fumble can catch the user...

Hows that for my brainstorming so far!

As DaiMon Bonk Merchantile and Dray Goods currently has the exclusive contract to produce, distribute and market said energy whips for both combat and "personnel" use I wish to inform you I have reported your transgression to the FCA and will be seeking compensation shortly unless a certain amount of profit form said marketing, producing and distrubution of said Energy whips makes it into one Bank of Bolarus account (#34rft5678jh899) held by DaiMon Bonk & Liquadator Queeg Joint Enterprise inc.

    Thank you

    Question

Report all you like Daimon. We are the Federation, not only are we completely unbound by your archaic FCA regulations, but we do not have any money...

a percentage compensation of nothing, is still nothing.

What was that rule about the empty sack again???

Now next time you plan on wasting profit on fruitless legal actions, it might be a better idea instead to plough that money into a bettre customer services team that is able to provide useful and productive information rather than prattling on and changing the subject.

So. Daimon, as the distributor of the whip, what are YOUR stats!

In reality, Dan I would second most of what you said, thou I don't think we should equate the whip with Phasers or Diruptors, the whips intent seems to be to stun someone more then anything else. The length on this one is a bit too short though it does fit the TNG era whips. The one on Enterprise was much more thin and longer, I think, and more "realistic" looking.

I like the idea of limiting the damage done to heavy stun (it is an odd device and should not have the wide range of capabilities of a phaser).

And I never even thought about using it just as a whip! Duh

I wouldn't place this puppy under either Energy Weapon or Primitive Weaponry (or their CODA equivalents). I'd make it an entirely separate skill, with no specialisations. I'd allow use as a non-powered melee weapon under Primitive Weaponry (Whip), but its use is just too different from other energy weapons to allow Joe Starfleet with a skill in Energy Weapon (Phaser) to pick one up and use it.

I'd also require at least a metre clearance all round to use it.

I see the Ferengi Energy Whip as relatively uncommon, used mostly as an intimidation weapon along the lines of the 'Tec 9 pistols used by gangs on TV shows - big, ugly and dangerous looking, but not especially practical.

Great idea! I was not too sold on the idea of allowing this device to be used, but as a unique. . .by itself skill. . .I like it a lot. Especially as a not too common, more for intimidation weapon.

    Hehehe ...

I never really left. As my "location" says, I've been incognito.

Glad to be back. Tho' some folks in the chat room have had the unfortunate pleasure to encounter me (once again) before the folks on these boards.
