    Floorplans of Old Buildings

    Anyone in my game should skip over this...

    Safe?

    OK... My next adventure has the characters back in time in the 1950s, "rescuing" the crew of a Klingon Bird of Prey which accidentally was pulled through a tempoeral rift to Earth of the 1950s.

    I'm trying to find maps of some buildings from that era - especially useful would be maps of a diner and of a hospital. Anyone have any suggestions where I can get some online (and for free)?

    I know this is a long shot but how about ...

    * library
    * CAD/CAM classes at local school/college/university
    * friendly firefighter
    * friendly security guard or safety inspector

    I am sure some of this is accesible to public ...
    Hope it helps

    Kind Regards

    If you have a university nearby which has a decent school of architechture, avail yourself of its archives. Books of home plans are fairly common in the magazine racks of American stores, and it may be possible to acquire copies of older volumes, much like the reprints of early Twentieth Century Sears-Roebuck catalogues which are availble. One other good choice is to browse the internet for websites devoted to architectural history and/or famous architects.

    Three more options:

    • if you live in or near any suffciently old city, the public library may have an extensive collection of historical maps, blueprints, and similar documents;
    • you can inquire about historical archives at your local city hall;
    • hit up your local historical society for any resources they have on hand.

    I might be able to help you Dan. I can definitely do the Diner with very little trouble. What would you like to see as far as the hospital. Floors..etc?

    Dan

    I tried a Google search for +"1950's diners" +"floor plans" and came up with this site: http://www.dinermite.com/ - it's a manufacturer who builds new 1950's style diners which look pretty accurate based on my somewhat limited experience (I've been in one real 1930's-era diner in New Jersey, and several 1950's theme diners, and watched a lot of Happy Days in the '70's). Each diner they make, from a small walk-through lunch counter to a huge 160-seater has an associated floor plan. Enjoy!

    Thanks all. That diner site is pretty neat, even beyond its use for my game.
