Paradise Station: The Evolution

    Okay... So it started here...

Now I am not artist... obviously...

So then I decided that my Star Trek campaign will be set on a Ferengi trading station instead (thanks to Star Charts). So the design changes.

The basics remain... Central section, three habitats coming off that on arms and then a 3 segement tail leading down to a power core.

My player Anthony came up with this...

    Not too bad actually.

Sea Tyger decided to go with this idea...

Not bad, but I felt the oversized mushroom looked too much like a Starfleet station.

So next up was this take, also from Sea Tyger...

Not bad, but not exactly what I am looking for...

    Then Sea Tyger gets inspired...

    Ovals...

I like it, but those bumps on the bottom of the main section should be the Habitats... so

    That's more like it

But now we have extra Habitats, can't have that...

Now we are cooking with heat.

But what if the arms with the Habitats could retract in times of emergency? And that command centre has got to go...

    Now that's much better.

So as it stands, we are not done yet, but we are on the way for sure

    What do you all think?

Comments? Well, you asked for it :

    - It looks much better .
    - It looks quite a bit less Ferengi than the Bell_Mushroom attempt. Maybe the lowermost or uppermost part doesn't need to be spherical?
    - Isn't its height/diameter ratio a bit high? No need to go back to the point of attempt #3, but still ... a bit wider wouldn't hurt I'd say.

    How about this:

Admittedly it is a little quick & dirty.

Not too bad. I can't help but think the middle part (the orange bulges) looks like a carrot or similar vegetable.

Err ... well, now that you mention vegetables, you know what it really looks like?
Sorry, couldn't resist ... but it does look like one you know ...

Hmmm... I am thinking I could lose one of the lower sections and reduce the height. Otherwise it looks right for what I am going for.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    WOW!

    Holy crap on a cracker!

    That is amazing.

It isn't exactly what I was going for, but it has got me thinking

Would you be willing to do another version with some directions?

I can try to help out. The only problem is that I will be online intermittantly over the next few days (work, out of town, work) so I cannot make any promises. Until then, I had some possibilities I also worked on (I am trying to avoid real work here). Unlike your earlier designs, these are straight/side views. I work with these better (which is why I never took up art)

Here is the one I like:

I hope it avoids the whole Dildo/Carrot thing that seems to have generated a certain amount of interest here I have a few other versions as well, but don;t want to clutter up this thread with too many images. You can find it on my website though:
    3 possibilities

The first pic from the left hand side is pretty much a straight line version of what you have with some alterations. The middle pic is the double tower version, with an expanded center section (which I later adjusted for the pic shown here) and the last just rounds off the edges to attempt to give it the more rounded look. Interesting stuff that I shall have to sometime incorporate into my own game.

    Publius,

Very cool design/shape. It looks very Ferengi.

Very neat, very not-Federation looking. Looks functional and different. Good job!

Publis, I really like what you did.

It is a very neat design style.

But I want to keep it more ergonic/organic is look and style.

Here is a stab at modifying what you did.

    What do you think?

Looks good, as I mentioned in the last post I will probably use the other design in one of my own games for an alien station the players visit at some point. I just work better with straight lines is all

I think that shortening it's overall length and removing those modules makes it look much better. Nice work.

At first I thought it had become a bit small ... but then I considered it trying to forget knowledge of the prior verisons: nothing said each section had to be the same size as they were in earlier versions, so chances are that the 3 sections in the last version are in fact somewhat bigger to compensate for the loss of 2 lower sections ... all right, even I can't make out what I was trying to say here ... anyhow, the overall proportions look much more balanced now ... and it does look Ferengi ... and I wouldn't be ashamed of sending my players there either ... good work Aslan (and associated artists ).

Thanks. Well I guess I can move this on to the next level and finish the fine details and then head into the 3d stage Wish me luck
