Starfleet Year One???

I just stumbeld upon a book called Starfleet Year One at amazon. Sadly there was only one negative review. So I wonder has anybody read it and is it well written?

I read it a while back (when it came out) and seem to recall that it's a good enough book (as far as Trek novels go, that is). It doesn't include information from Enterprise (take that as good or bad, depending on your point of view), so it might make you do a double-take in certain areas.

As far as I know, it was just a one-shot novel, so it's not a bad pick-up, as, if you don't like it, there's no further series to either ignore or to buy into.

I'd tell you more, but I frankly don't remember much about it, to be honest. I recall that it wasn't a bad book, but that's about it (aside from what you've probably already learned from the book blurb at Amazon or other sites).

I read it. It doesn't fit with Enterprise, so if that's a problem. It does present an interesting view of how Star Fleet formed as an organization devoted to science and peaceful exploration, with military duties secondary. Especially in light of the fact that the Federation formed right after the Romulan War.

It is an okay read. The writing is okay, and the premise carries it.
