Question What if: d20 Star Trek

It was not too long ago that we thought that WotC would be publishing the next incarnation of the Star Trek rpg. So what do you think it would have been like?

If memory serves, many were concerned that such a product would be too much like D&D (second level Starfleet security officers raiding a Klingon Battlecruiser "dungeon"). But, in light of recent d20 products, what is the general consensus?

I personally feel that a d20 Trek would not be a bad game. With just the handfull of d20 core rule books I have (D&D, Star Wars, Call of Cthuhlu, and Modern), I am convinced that the d20 system can be modified to serve many gaming genres well. And with the understanding of the Star Trek universe of the original LUG designers working on the project, a d20 Trek would have done the genre justice. Additionally, it could be argued that the d20 logo could bring stronger sales forces to bare.

    So what of it?

P.S. Please note that this is just in good fun. I feel that Coda Trek is a great game and I truly have no ill feelings toward it (except the botched released schedule ).

This topic's been discussed extensively on this board. Search for some of the other threads for more thoughts.

IMO, d20 has enough flaws that I wouldn't have used a d20 Trek game. I would have stuck with LUG or a homebrew. As it is, I got Coda, and am really happy with it.

I don't know about that, Ineti. I have scanned several of the older pages and was unable to find such a thread. Could you point in the general direction? In fact, I don't think the archive goes back to the point at which this was probably discussed.

Besides, those topics are about what, a year old (at least)? Opinions could have changed over that time. And, not to be rude, but why can't a topic that has been discussed before not be discussed again? I can appreciate having a grasp on what has been discussed about a particular topic in the past, but sometimes you need to start anew.

Here is the thread Ineti was referring to, I think.

And it was a month ago, actually.

Ah, many thanks. I was looking in the general Star Trek forum.

Never said it couldn't be discussed again. Just informing you that it had been discussed, and recently.

Here's another thread, for what it's worth. I used the Search feature and came up with a couple more.
