Trek rpg on a Bulletin board, How?

Hello Folk:

Now I know how you run a PBEM campaign, but can anybody explain to me how you would set up a campaign using a Yahoo groups , or an EzBoards setup? I know it can be done as apparently people do it, but I'm real fuzzy on the specifics.

The reason I ask is because my "Gaming group" Has become geograpically fragmented, and the ones that remain close enough to get together, seldom have the time available in they're schedules to do so.

I thought I'd explore is this to see if it is a viable method of RPing!!?

can anybody help, or at least point me in the right Direction?

While I've not run a game myself, I do play in a PBEM game that is managed (in part) through the use of a Yahoo Groups board, run by Dan Gurden (of these boards, no less). There are, in fact, quite a few games that are ran by members of these boards, and I think that they could answer your questions better, but I'll take a crack at them.

I think that the use of a group (either Yahoo or whatnot), is a good way, I think, to help manage posts, and consolidate documents and other bits of info for both players and Narrators. It seems to work best with a supplemental website that actually houses online character and setting information for easy access for all involved.

I think that one of the things you can expect is for the pace of your game to slow, but if you're experienced in any way with PBEM games then this shouldn't come as any sort of shock. Still, if you want to game, and game at a distance, then this isn't a bad way to go, in my opinion.

As I said, though, others on the boards may be able to answer your questions with a bit more clarity, so I'll leave it to them.

Hey Erik,

I run a PBEM with some members of the boards, but I am actually the GM. WE use Yahoo groups, because it is easier. Instead of sending you post to every member of the group you just have to send one to the group's email and it is distributed back to you.

As far as game mechanics go, the players post what they are trying to do, make their roll and write the skills needed + roll on the bottom of the post and I see if they make it or not.
