    Post Series Concept

I actually had this idea while reading the To Dependent thread (thanks for the direction ).

The character's ship (newly launched) heads out on its first mission. Warp core problem and the captain orders abandon ship. Well, the crew does so, but the ensuing explosion kills off most of the escape vessels. One of the surviving vessels is a runabout with the PC's on board. Now either this could be "their ship" or it could be one ship in a fleet trying to get home. Yeah, there's that lost in space thing again. But it might be interesting to see how it plays out.

Intreting idea, but where was the ship at when it exploded? If it anywhere near Federation space it wouldnt be a very long series. Especially when whatever near by Federation ships respond to the distress signal. Might I suggest the Gamma Quadrant?

    Lost in Federation space...

The warp core explosion actually puts the crews runabout and maybe some other shuttles/escape pods in a causality loop. Yah, yah, old hat, I know. Here's the fun part. The loop is long enough that they actually are rescued. Then they are assigned to the ship and go through it again. The great advantage here is that you can run the same episodes over and over...

OK, so I got a little silly, but I think there's fun to be had with the idea.

Here is another variant on the idea- maybe the explosion causes a temporal anomality and the PCs must repair the time line.
This give the "lost in space" idea a fresh prespective. Could be interesting having a runabout based campaing in 2260 or earlier.

    OK, here's another strange one.

Remember when LaForge and Ro were put out of phase with "normal" space? We were all annoyed by the fact that they could walk through walls/doors/people, but managed not to fall through the floor, right? Here's my idea:

    1) Exploding ship manages to launch its distress beacon, and it reaches a safe distance before the big boom.

    2) The explosion somehow throws the survivors and their shuttles/pods out of phase. This being the case, no-one onboard realizes it until...

    3) The rescue ships show up -- and can't find them.

A runabout and some shuttles have replicators, so they could feed themselves for quite a while, so the problem could persist for a good long time...

About my above post... anyone want to fly a runabout through a Galaxy class ship? Wouldn't that be freaky?
