The ads struck me as odd. "Learn to get over your inability to interact with others..."

I'm not sure how much many it made - most of their tech briefings popped up on the internet moments after an issue was released (or before, since they originally came from Fact Files)

Forget layouts! You wanna revitalize Star Trek? You want a feature film that TENS of MILLIONS will go mad to see?

Few ads that would pay much of anything

Star Trek far less popular than Star Wars in the eyes of the general public

Expensive magazine up against a shrinking fan base

The only Star Trek show on currently has not-so-hot ratings

That's not to keep a magazine running on.

Indeed this may be a sign of Star Trek in general

The Star Trek franchise is currently in disarray; TOS had a fanatically loyal (if not particularly huge) fan base; TNG is long time gone; DS9 and Voyager never caught on to the same level and, as indicated above, Enterprise even less so. In a lot of ways Star Trek seems "old hat" to a lot of folks.

If the franchise wants to stay alive, it's going to need to do something really spectactular or it is going to watch its fanbase diminish even further.

Maybe the need some movies not tied to a tv series? Maybe they need more space battles? Maybe they DO need more cleavage? I don't have the real answers, but Star Trek is definitely fading from the general public's mind.

Eh.. I see your point. I just hate seeing mags that are 25% (or more) ads & declining percentages of "real content".

    Got the official postcard today...

"We regret to inform you that STAR TREK: The Magazine will cease production after the April 2003 issue...

...We apologize for any disappointment this causes and assure you the decision to stop producing the magazine has been taken reluctantly."

Hmmm. Did they lose a license, or did Paramount pull the plug? Just like them to scrap something that was decent.

Oh, well. I think my subscription to Communicator kicks in soon.

Pseroanlly their content has been going down hill a bit anyways (IMHO).

I always enjoyed getting the articles for the behind the scene stuff. Things that might look original or at least different from the shows that I could introduce. Seems material like that has been dwindling and for the longest time it seemed like the only things they really showed was TNG: First Contact. (I'm sick of seeing the sketches for their "civilian outfits").

They've done some articles on Enterprise but nothing really that screams to me. No uniforms, nothing major on the ships. Even Nemesis seemed a lil lackluster in their "all Nemesis" issue. And the 2nd half of the "let's tour the Enterprise-D" really got to me. Not that I did appreciate it, gave me ideas for other ships. I don't recall seeing a "to be continued next month" and reading the intro made it sound like a different article, not a continuation.

Does your sig area really need to be bigger then your post?
