Well at least it's not the adult-rated version of the joke, where the Klingons come back from a one year mission with no shore leave and Wesley wears a TOS female uniform...

Now that would have been good film-making.
No, that would be something Berman & Braga would use (rumor has it Berman never liked Wesley Crusher character and Wil Wheaton; it took LeVar Burton to convince the producer to come on the show, but Berman was giving lip service taught to him by Paramount when Gene Roddenberry was alive). Despite the ill title of "The Boy Wonder Who Saved Enterprise," his character really isn't all that bad.

IMHO, Wesley was particularly bad during TNG's first season, where he is not only "The boy who saves the Enterprise", but also "The boy who is right against all the bad grown up who don't want to listen to him until it's too late" (think Datalore). Then again, during this season, Picard managed to sum up all the worst aspects of Kirk's personality with little to none redeeming quality.

As for Wil Wheaton, given what he says on his site, I think he suffered as much from the producers than the fans would like Wesley to.

You know the first 500 times I heard that joke I didn't think it was funny. Can't say I've changed my mind.
Sorry you feel that way. But I absolutely hated Wesley.

This is exactly how I feel. The first season with him was awful and tainted the whole character for the rest of the series. I don't hate Wheaton, (as an actor he was good), its just the character which irritated me.

If they could kill Kirk off in Generation (which was a good idea IMO) then they could have at least had Wesley have a 15 second scene were he is killed off (By klingons or anything else).

What if I don't like Wesley dead as much as Kirk?

Hate him for all you want. He is still much a part of the Trek universe.

    Then that is your opinion.

I hate the character, and though he is a part of the Trek universe; it doesn't mean I have to like it. Others may feel otherwise, but it seems to me that most fans of Trek didn't like the character (not necessarily the actor).

And as a narrator for Trek, I got rid of all the characters I didn't like. What Trek needs right now is to be more liberal about killing/removing characters we've seen on screen and starting anew (ENT doesn't count).

back on the topic of ST not faring well...

I was wondering- does anybody know what is happening at Paramount over the Nemesis debacle?

also, is it true that Enterprise got decent ratings in its first season but that now those ratings have plummeted to near-cancellation status?

According to that, Ent will be back for Season 3, however http://mvrojo.tripod.com/entratings.htm

Ratings for the last few episodes have definitely slipped.

I thought I'd remember seeing somewhere that "Catwalk" was the second lowest rated Ent episode so far, but I can't find my source material .

Why ENT doesn't count? And why limit to character/actors? I say if you're liberal in cutting, then cut the head: Brannon Braga.

I still say his leadership is the reason why Trek is on a self-induced coma and life support.

I couldn't agree with you more.

IMO Ent. hasn't done anything that the other series haven't done. I saw the same storylines/plots come back and the same basic premise. Though they did make it without a Federation in the background.

Why limit to actors/characters? Well I figure you can't just revamp the whole thing at once and trying a few things could work. Being more liberal about eliminating characters from the story could generate some new ideas. Killing off say the captain of a series and then having a ST HQ replacement come-in to take his place instead of promoting the 1st officer could provide new ideas.

What ST really needs is a new staff in charge of producing. Looser controls over the writing (while paying attention to canon, not minute details like the exact stellar location of Bajor) would help.
