    GURPS Equipment/Weapons to ICON

I came across a PBM web page a few weeks ago which featured GURPS as its operating system. I poked around and really liked some of the equipment and weapos it had featured. Thought they would do nicely to add a little something to our games when we need a little piece of alien technology.

So I trotted over to eBay and placed a few bids and as of yesterday I am now the owner of GURPS High Tech 3d ed., GURPS Ultra-Tech Vols. One and Two, and GURPS Space 2d ed., and a PDF from the eBay seller she was kind enough to send me called "GURPSlite."

After skimming through the books all afternoon and into the late evening hours I am even more excited about adding some of this equipment and weapons into our ICON game. But my God, the GURPS system is so damn complicated! Malfunctions, accuracy modifiers, rate of fire, recoil penalties!?!?

Anyone here ever convert GRUPS equipment/weapons for their ICON game? If so, do you have a reasonable conversion system? If not. . .anyone want to help me come up with one?

I run a GURPS game (transhuman space -THS) so I know this system but I must admit I've never tried to convert weapons (but I did for other RPGs)

My 2 cents on this matter is : don't try to find out any conversion system. They never work. Just try to adapt your GURPS weapons.

For instance, in THS, you may find:

    Assault Pod

    15 mm missile
    Type CR++
    Dg: 6D
    SS: 9
    Acc: 10
    1/2D: 500
    Max: 500
    Weight: 3
    Rof: 4
    Shots: 4
    Recoil: 0

    4 mm auto

    Type: Cr
    Dg: 3D2
    etc.

The gun features two kind of ammo: standard bullets and micromissiles. Let's say you think micromissiles are cool and you want to introduce some in your next adventure (maybe on another planet).

For example, maybe you like micromissile ammo because it's more similar to violent real life combat (as opposed to bloodless stun set phasers) and yet modern enough to have its place in a sci-fi setting.

A micromissile is a deadly ammo, exploding on impact and able to injure everyone nearby. Snap shoot threshold ? Accuracy score ? Rate of Fire ? Don't bother with details.

You determine that micromissiles are more dangerous than 21st century's assault rifles. Checking ST weapon stats on the Player's you read: Assault Rifle 4D6+2. You want it to be more lethal ? Let's go for 4D6+12. As for range, we could keep the assault rifle range. Then you just have to note that an assault pod can only fire 4 micromissiles before it has to be reloaded.

And you have your new weapon.
The same as GURPS' assault pod ? Clearly not.
But CODA is not GURPS so where's the pb ?
Just make sure to transcript into CODA what appealed to you in the weapon/stuff you want to borrow from GURPS.

This is at least how I do deal with these kind of issues

Thanks Erias. That is the problem with being OCD. . .just leaving out the non-essential stuff never occured to me. Now that you have pointed me in the right direction I can get to converitng some of these goodies.
