I m not sure here but don't lawyers, like doctors and nurses, get their education (pre-law,, pre-med, etc.) before they join the service?

Most of the time, yes, IIRC. It's possible that an enlist goes to college after leaving the service, get his MD or JD, then go back in as an officer. I'm not sure if there are programs for officers to go to law school while still in uniform; the Navy doesn't give out JDs anywhere I'm aware of (and I work at one of the Navy's postgrad institutions). There certainly aren't any programs I'm aware of for officers to attend med school after being in the service. Again, the only thing I can see is the officer leaving the service, getting their degree individually, then returning to active service as a staff officer.

Geez, get that burr out of your backside and calm the @#!% down.
    burr out and thrown away

I know with the army plenty of officers in all branches are given the opportunity to seek higher degrees while still remianing in the service they are either given a leave for the time needed or earn it through coorespondence or Army supported programs. Business, Engineering and Law degrees being the most common. Meanwhile If I remember right Fort Sam has a full medical school which grants degrees. I would also go out on a limb and say that most JAG officers have priorly served in the Reserves as Enlisted while working through School. Most of the Nursing Students I know in school did this as well or were in ROTC but Nursing is still in a crisis situtation from what I understand and any Nurse can walk in the door and have a uniform on when they walk out.
