    Question Who's a smoker?

Just curious to see if the population of smokers among role-players is similar to that of the population at large.

Oh, I am one, by the way.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of the people that I have roleplayed with over the years have been smokers (and smokers at the gaming table, no less), as well as spending years working in smoke-filled bars, I've never felt the urge to light up.

For that, I am most thankful...

Nope. Don't begrudge people who do, they just don't get to smoke in my place or my car.

Never have, never will. I'm allergic to cigarette and cigar smoke. I can't stay more than a couple hours at my mother-in-law's house--she smokes like a chimney and my eyes sting and my sinuses collapse inside a couple hours. Makes it a real bear during the holidays.

None of my current gaming group smokes, but I've had a few in the past. Fortunately, they take it outside.

I'm a smoker. I voted for the "seriously trying to quit" option. I'm a half-packer per day (roughly a dozen), which I'm trying to get down to a half-dozen per day. Once I'm there, going cold turkey might be an option.

I don't smoke in the house though, I go out to the back porch. Thankfully, it is enclosed but not connected to the house (separate ventilation). It's still kinda cold out there, so in a weird way, it helps cut back how much I smoke.

That makes nights like tonight bearable -- we got a blizzard here in Toronto! I'd hate to have to go outside for a smoke tonight!

I experimented with cigarettes in high school and a little in the Navy, but I mostly smoked pipes during my first 3-or-so years in the Navy. After getting sick from a pipe at a concert back home (on leave), I decided to quit all together.

I never developed a habit...only smoked socially, so, thankfully I never had to go through the real pains of quitting.

I voted for 'never smoked', which was the best answer, but not quite accurate. I indulge in a cigar once every 18-24 months or so.

Smoke doesn't bother me very much, unlike almost all of my friends. It's a really good thing I never got started on cigarettes though. I'm pretty orally fixated and I know I'd never be able to quit. That and all my friends would rapidly disown me.

    Interesting, so far.

I'm a heavy smoker, but I like to describe myself as a "considerate smoker". I always ensure I'm not near a non-smoker when I light up, I refuse point blank (even when invited to) to smoke in anyone's house (even my own) or car (though I smoke in my car when I'm alone). My son is an asthmatic, so I always make sure I'm miles away from him when I have one.

I was doing well with cutting down until I got a laptop from work. Now I do a lot of work on it out on the back patio...and smoke my way thru marking and lesson prep!

I'm going onto a nicotine patch program this year...so wish me luck!

You're a teacher, then. Important work, that!

    Best of luck quitting!

    Arrow Never smoked...

I have other problems with my life, especially with my family's medical history of high blood pressure. So why add one more?

I've seen the effect of lung cancer inflicted on one of my relatives during my impressionable years. The least I could do is honor his last wishes and memory that I do not follow his path as a smoker.

Besides, I can never understand the glamour or allure of smoking ... or drinking beer for that matter. At least wine is sweet tasting.
    Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

Well. I used to smoke. heavily.

But I went Cold Turkey in May 2001 and apart from a Cigar that made me feel ill this New Years Eve I have been without ever since. And apart from the slight weight gain I have felt so much healthier since giving up...

I've never smoked. But because I'm an asthmatic I do know what its like to be in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask, fighting for every single breath.

My grandfather died of lung cancer, because he smoked all his life. My great aunt smoked and had a stroke because of it, and despite this she she continued to smoke until she died of another stroke.

    Give it up people. NOW.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Non-smoker, mainly due to seeing what it did to my father and grandfather.

On occasion, I have recently tried the odd cigarette when offered round at bars (and only when I'm past the six pints mark...) on the basis that you really shouldn't condemn something you've never tried. That and the fact that the way my throat feels the next day reminds me why I don't smoke. Life total (I'm 28) is about 6 cigarettes and unlikely to increase to more than 10 anytime soon.
