    Starship Combat in Coda

I've never had any other Star Trek RPGs other than Decipher's, so I don't know how good of combat and ship contruction systes they have, but the one for Coda, in my opinion, sucks!

In it, you will have ships from earlier eras with a stronger hull than later era ships because they have more free Space when they are done. The shields are all the same strength, and the weapon strengths are way off.

If anyone has a better combat system made up for Coda, along with a better ship creation system, could ou please post it on this thread?

Another question, are there plans for a SPACEDOCK for Coda?

    Welcome to the boards Lonoto.

BTW, Don Mappin who owns and runs these boards wrote the Coda ship rules.

I kinda like the Coda rules, the maneuvers really make it unique IMHO.

Sure the Connie has more hull than the Galaxy, but as someone on these very boards pointed out its like comparing a modern Ferrari with a Astin Martin DB5: the Ferrari will consistently out perform the DB5, but crash them into one another and the DB5 will take a lot more punishment.
As for ships having shields the same strength: the 24th Century ships have consistenly stronger shields (17/4 for the Galaxy and Intrepid) than their 24th century counterparts (13/3 for the Connie).

Spacedock should be relatively easy to convert to Coda, I there are already several threads here on the borads. Try a search.

More like ramming a Lexus into a old DeSoto. Smushy Lexus bits.

Another theory behind it could be the fact that if you have stronger shields, why do you need as think a hull?

Well, me and a friend of mine have put together some test rules for Coda ship combat.

Yes, the maneuvers are good, I'm going to keep them.

The other thing is that the torpedo strength is kinda off, and the damage groups all weapons together, something I don't like.

And, I meant no offense to Don, I just want a more complex combat system.

    A few more things

A few more things I have to say:

Why are Starships Hull points determined by size? What about hull composition?

The Offense value thing is good and stuff, but why does it group all the weapons together? I would like a per weapon way of doing it.

I like the Starship Combat without a tactical board because I am used to playing out D&D without a playing mat yet keeping the feel and the tactical advantages in it.

There is no power system in this method? How do you know if you can power all of those weapons and stuff?

I know how shields work with the protection rating and stuff, but still, all ships have the same strength? You can just do more damage to some, and sometimes it is only by 1 point if any.

If anyone has devised a system for Coda that addresses these things, I'd love to see it. I am also including my not finished system with this post, so if you could R&R I'd appreciate it.

    Thank You

    Shhot

Shoot, I forgot to include the file. Woops. It isn't compatible with this thing though. Darn. Sorry about that then.

Then stop complaining about the system here. The system isn't designed for what you're wanting it to do; it is not a tactial simulator. There are plenty available for you to use already (FASA, Spacedock, Star Fleet Battles, and soon Engage!).

Complaining that a 4-door sedan won't go off-road and tow your camper-trailer is just silly.
