I just came here to check out this board. I've been hanging around on the Star Trek sections mostly. And I abolutly HATE the garish colors around here! They hurt my eyes! Is there any way to change them?

I've turned off the mandatory style-set so this section will use whatever your user style-set is set to.
If anyone wishes to use the LotR style-set as their default, go to the User CP and select it under Options.
Thanks a lot, Don!

I'm sticking with the LotR color scheme. It is a bit gaudy, but I find the features a lot easier to identify, and it does have a Tolkienish aura about it.

Well, give me some ideas on how to improve it.
My advice is get to the darker colors as the predominant. Dark forest green background, deep browns for the edges and a nice gold and silver for the txt and highlights.
Give it a really Mirkwood feel.

I actually prefer the LOTR scheme to the Trek scheme, but that's strictly a matter of personal preference. I also prefer the LOTR font choices.
How hard would it be to define a scheme that uses those colors, but still has the Trek graphics?
I've read studies claiming that black text on a yellow background makes for easies "readability".
A green and brown background with soft yellow plates for black message text would be good. No bright colors, pease! Bright colors sting the eyes, and looking at a computer screen too long is bad enough!
I realise that this is very close to the current style-set, but there is something about it that makes it seem too bright to me. This is just my own veiw though. The grey and black of the star trek style-set might be a bit boring, but it's much easier on my eyes.
I like the idea that you can choose style-set yourself. I hadn't noticed that there was such an option. I would prefer being able to customize myself...

Don -
I can't tell shades to save my life, so the contrast between black & pink (sorry if that's the wrong colour, it's the only shade that I can think of how to describe it) and purple and yellow is good for me.
I like Almos' idea as an option, but in all honesty, it's hard for me to figure out the colour scheme that was listed other than reading the words. Not a criticism by any stretch - I think the more options for user customization (that are feasible from a coding aspect) would be great.
All in all, I think the site has a nice feel to it. I've been on the ArsTechnica & Termpro forums for a long time and have gotten used to their colour schemes - customization would be a nice improvement.
Sorry if this is a ramble, but again, all-in-all it's a nice site.
