    [CODA] Erie-class Light Scout

This is actually a class of starship I invented for a Voyager: Elite Force mod that I hope to put together in the not-to-distant future. It's the ship commanded by the main character, and becomes involved in an incursion from the future to destroy the post-Dominion War Alliance. It's an ideal ship for stranding your players with very little support from NPC crew or Starfleet at large.

Although construction of the prototype for this class began in 2373, the program to commission the Erie-class scout was put on hold soon after the Dominion War began, to divert resources to more combat-capable classes of starship. About three years later, once the war had ended, designers revisited the specifications and revised them to incorporate new sensor innovations and commissioned the completion of the prototype and five more vessels.

The Erie-class scout is essentially an extension on the Danube-class runabout. Like its forerunner, the scout comes equipped with better firepower than might be expected for its size, and only carries a minimal crew. Its mission duration is vastly increased, with private cabins for each crew member and powerful embedded warp engines similar to those utilized in Defiant-class escorts. The most important feature of the Erie-class scout is its impressive sensor array, which is one of the most sophisticated to date.

Despite the reliability of these ships, many Starfleet officers view getting posted to one of these scouts as a damper to their careers. With its tiny crew, spartan living arrangements and the long-term (and often tedious) mission lengths with minimal access to shore leave, quite a few who find themselves assigned to an Erie-class scout become dissatisfied with the posting. Rumors persist that a Starfleet admiral or two have given these assignments to officers they hold grudges against.

    Nice

Nice ship. I like it, but I have just one suggestion, if you could include a cloaking device (basically a holo-cloak, which is legal) on it, that would be cool. But it's awesome as it is, so I'm not pushing.

I like the history you did for this ship too. It is pretty cool, especially the last time.

You sure? I'm not so sure....

If you're refering to the ones seen in Insurection, I'd remind you that the whole shebang was pretty illegal.

Of course, it's your game but I can't see the romulans being understanding about any cloaks without their permission....

I think Pathstrider's right about the holo-cloak being nominally illegal for the Federation to use, but I could see it in use plausibly near the end and after the war, if the Federation and the Romulan Empire came to some agreement about allowing certain Federation ships (maybe of particularly classes or sizes) to be equiped with holo-cloaks, as part of the Alliance and the War effort. At any rate, as Insurrection showed us, Starfleet seems to have this technology around, if only for "emergencies"

I think the easiest way to convert the ship into a holo-cloaking vessel would be to remove the Phaser Banks and replace them with a Class 3 Cloaking Device (TN 20). This vastly reduces the tactical capability of the Erie (which was pretty weak to begin with) but you don't get something for nothing. It still has its Minitorpedoes so it's not entirely unarmed.

If anyone's interested, I can try to post a diagram of the ship's profile in the next few days. I do have deck plans for it, but they're still in progress (and they're designed with a slight bent towards being a FPS map, if that matters).

I know, I know. There are always a _few_ crackpot admirals out there.

But I should note that in all the episodes the crew are fighting _against_ them. Right.

    Right?

I have to wonder . . . as far as the Treaty of Algeron. If the RSE were to dissolve, then the Federation would not be treaty bound not to use cloaks, right?
